Originally, this was a British production. Now, it's an American serial with Kevin Spacey in the lead. First of all, the American production is far, far better than the original British production.

Second, other than Spacey, the actors are unknown but generally excellent. (Frankly, I think that the producers should have cast someone cheaper than Spacey - and he was an executive producer!) As to casting, the president is badly cast/written, and the Sancorp lobbyist also.

IMHO, Netflix has scored a coup with this serial but I don't quite understand the business model. Apparently, it cost $100 million to make two seasons or 26 episodes. Link Where's the money?

If you're a political junkie, it's better than a Crackberry. Good fun on a Sunday afternoon.

If my math is correct, if they sign up an additional 500K people for 1 year of Netflix they have broken even.

That seems reasonable enough.

As for Spacey, a venture like this would likely need a big 'lead' to get attention but not necessarily so. Mad Men (my favourite of them) didn't have that.

Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase !

On one series alone? Surely Netflix owners can make easier money.

Or maybe, a corporation (corporate managers, people) are taking a longer view, thinking of shareholders - like BMW buyers - who also plan to resell.
