Senators calls on maritime provinces to merge

The purpose of government isn't to employ civil servants.

PEI's population is forecast to peak at 150,000 by 2025 then decline to 129,000 by 2052. For this a 27 seat legislature and complete provincial bureaucracy. Ridiculous.

On the other hand, merging the Maritime provinces just makes too much sense.

Having such tiny provinces all with their own legislatures and bureaucracies duplicating services makes no sense.

All the maritime provinces combined have less population than the lower mainland of BC and they are four provinces! It makes a lot of sense that they amalgamate.

I calculated the percentage of workers in the public service by Province using StatsCan data for 2011:

25% in PEI.

27% in NS

31% in NL

26% in NB

Other parts of Canada:

21% in QC

20% in ON

28% in MB

28% in SK

17% in AB

18% in BC

1.8 million people, spread out over an area roughly the size of the island of Newfoundland, have 134 MLAs. I don't know how much the average MLA costs but the average MP costs $600,000 annually.

Whose call, I've lived in NS before, I'm not sure what you mean by their, it is part of Canada, who is suppose to care?

Its like saying Quebec independence doesn't have anything to do with the rest of Canada. It changes Canada's federation and constitution.

I think any constitutional change effects me so yes I do think it matters to me. Some places more than others.
