WIP Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 Frankly, I would think it is much, much more. Good thing all the supercarriers and subs are nuclear powered, huh? The Navy would have had a pretty damn big carbon footprint if they were diesel-powered! It's not just the U.S., as Canada and many other developed and not so developed nations also import oil and gas. That's why we call it a "hydrocarbon economy". And we know that the hydrocarbon economy is going to kill us...especially as it is combined with an economic system that depends on increasing growth and increasing production. And there has been a total lack of honesty about how to do one without the other -- ending the hydrocarbon economy can't happen without addressing the way the world economy is structured. Just building windmills and solar panels as alternatives is an exercise in futility. We are either willing to make the changes to save the future, or we're not! Quote Anybody who believers exponential growth can go on forever in a finite world is either a madman or an economist. -- Kenneth Boulding, 1973
