Well Duhhhhhhhh... Why should the "TTC" (Toronto Transit commision btw) recieve MONEYS from towns like Milton? Or Hamilton? Or Thunder Bay??? Ohh thats right..... Entitlement alla Toronto... The TTC is a MESS thanks to Stintz and the Unions..... Ontario would be BROKE if they pandered to that armpit.

And the Expenses point related DIRECTLY to the sheer inneptness of the NDP's part to manage finances or monies... VERY simply

RAWWWWWW I HATE TRANSFER PAYMENTS!!!! Unless of course it is transferring money out of Toronto then I love them. My name is Fletch and I am a hypocrite!!!!

My standard of living has ZERO to do with Toronto.. Nadda.,.. Economic engine???????????? So says toronto.... lololol

Here we go again with the "Toronto is the center" thing.... Toronto is BROKE! Look to the outside like MIssissauga, Oakville, Burlington, Where things are BOOMING!

We dont need to fix all of your problems... you should do that yourself without my tax dollars..

If its the "Engine of Ontario",,, Why are we "have not"??? Maybe Toronto should "werk harder" huh?

Lets stay on point here... On Olivias Tax proposal... Her record of mismangement of finances (expenses) and what she would propose with this Billion dollar tax grab...

Wow you are all over the place. How about a rational argument where you use facts and numbers to back up your argument instead of the rantings of a crazy person. BTW Toronto accounts for 1/3rd-1/2 of all of Ontario's GDP while only supporting around 1/6th of the population. You are the drag on the economy not Toronto it is quite clear they are the ones supporting you.

You not understand how numbers work as with this case with Toronto have pointed out your claims about numbers and money mean NOTHING. You can't accuse Olivia of anything because you don't even understand how your provinces finances work. This is a part of it. Olivia is now not in question you are.

Guess again.

But dont despair, We say 'You're welcome' We are generous like that.

There is a reason Milton is one of if not the fastest grwoing region. Want to guess the likely #1 reason is? Heres a hint, it isnt because your are close to Guelph or Hamilton.

Here we go again with the "Toronto is the center" thing.... Toronto is BROKE! Look to the outside like MIssissauga, Oakville, Burlington, Where things are BOOMING!

We arent broke. Too little smarts on council sure, but broke? Nope.

We dont need to fix all of your problems... you should do that yourself without my tax dollars..

We do fix them, but not with your dollars, see this is where the rubber meets the road. All infrastrucutre improvements, like say your highways and roads could not be fixed with just your tax base.

Again, you/re welcome.

If its the "Engine of Ontario",,, Why are we "have not"??? Maybe Toronto should "werk harder" huh?

Well, if we kept more of our money, you'd be broke, the province would suffer, but we are generous and need not seee you suffer.

Engine of a lot of this country, not just the Province.

I dont expect you to understand though. But come on back with lots of yelling and exclamation marks. Makes you look real smart like.

Facts citations and numbers. You have already proven your OPINIONS to me meaningless with your Toronto statements so now from you I require actual facts.

The notion that the most populous municipality in Ontario and Canada, home of the financial sector and hub for numerous other businesses is somehow dependent on the burghers of Milton and Oakville is so risible on its face it's not even worth a real response.

rolleyes.giflaugh.png will do.

I think the sentiment that the "Burbs" are dependent on Toronto is a fallacy. I won't go nearly as far as saying that Toronto needs the burbs but Many communities in the GTA are doing just fine.

Lot's of head offices and industries are moving out to the GTA. They aren't just communities filled with cookie-cutter houses and Wal-marts. Mississauga is actually growing into quite an Urban place. If you're on the 403 driving by the City Centre you'd think you were driving by a real city. The public transit is pretty good there too.

Hey look a random post that has very little to do with what we are talking about. Typical conservative posting.

Black Dog said it was offensive to think that the GTA could support Toronto. I was just stating that in the past GTA communities had to send a Vig to Toronto to help pay for Social services. I'm sure Toronto thinks it's still entitled to that thinking that there are few homeless people in the burbs, they all go downtown to get their homeless on.

5 years ago they did have to chip in actually. http://www.thestar.c...or-t-o-services

Ontario property taxes are the highest in Canada and a big part of that is because the province forces municipalities to pay part of the cost of social services.

That speaks to the overarching problem: the province isn't helping out the way they should. It's also worth pointing out that that's another Harris legacy.

Again Toronto 1/6th the population of Ontario contributes 1/3rd to 1/2 of all GDP in the province. They are doing their part.

Well which is it 1/3 or half?

Toronto Proper is about 2 million which is about 1/6 of the Province. But the Amalgamated Mega City is around 4 million people which is about 1/3 of the province.

There is no Old Toronto. Only Mega City 1.

Depends on what you are looking at Toronto Proper or the GTA but either way the are doing more for the province mathematically then anyone else.

But you could say that about the entire region though. Mississauga is turning into quite an economic powerhouse too, but Toronto has had quite a significant head start in the way of urbanization.

Maybe we will be able to say that about Mississauga in the future but for now they have around 7-8% of the population and contribute 6% of the GDP. That is nothing compared to Toronto.

That's fine but the the GTA is a region. This thread is about Olivia Chow trying to levy a VAT to pay for Toronto infrastructure. That's not a problem the regions should worry themselves with.

Each town has their own infrastructure to worry about, either that or a provincial road is dealt with on that level.

Unless you want to put a toll both on major highways to charge people coming into the city, (like other major cities do) there's little the burbs should be expected to do. BTW where are you getting these GDP numbers?

The penny tax would be levied by municipalities, not the province. So Toronto would be taxing Torontonians and anyone who buys goods and services within Toronto.
