I'm a unionized employee...

I've been held hostage by management more than a few times...

In fact, our contract is up on Sunday night and we are only going to see the first offer on Saturday afternoon because the company refused to negotiate early...

You see, that moblike hostage holding goes both ways...

Whew...Contract ratified!!!

The beatings will continue until morale improves!!!

I've been a union rep., a safety union rep, a member of management, and, I can say with experience, there are no crooks, fraudsters or bums in middle management and very few in top management that can hold a candle to those crooks, fraudsters or bums in the union movement. Particularly so in the Public Service.

You gotta give the Star lots of credit here. This is why MSM investigative journalism is something that's of value to everyone and should be preserved. Had the Star not brought this to public light, perhaps nothing would have been done.

More news about the issue came out today.

Love this pure unadulterated B/S. "In an earlier interview, Hazel said: “We’re competitive and we are proud of it,” adding that if he ever discovered a problem with one of his workers, “he wouldn’t be working for very f---ing long.”

In my rather comprehensive dealings with unions from both sides, I've found so much crap by union leaders, so many plants closed by union actions, so many lazy 'workers' as to stagger the mind. Try to fire anyone and be prepared for grievance, threats, hearing/adjudication,slow downs/sick-offs,and lies. It comes down often to just turning a blind eye for one's own health.

Just when you thought this story couldn't get anymore hilariously sad.

http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/1218387--tdsb-workers-given-253-000-in-gift-cards-by-union

Jimmy Hazel’s trades council has doled out hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars in TigerDirect store gift cards to Toronto school board maintenance and construction workers, with at least some of the money coming from what an insider referred to as a Liberal government “slush fund.”

Hundreds of workers used the gift cards — in $300 and $500 denominations — to buy personal electronic products, cameras, DVDs and games or to put towards the purchase of computers at electronics retailer Tiger Direct. At least $253,000 in cards went out the door, though it may be double that amount.

It’s the latest revelation in a growing problem facing the Toronto District School Board, and now the provincial government. Earlier Star stories have revealed the high cost of work by the 900-strong Maintenance and Skilled Trades Council, which has an exclusive contract with the school board. Installing a pencil sharpener was $143; a simple electric outlet almost $3,000.

Meanwhile, the public board is facing a budget crunch and must make millions of dollars in education cuts. Parents, principals and some trustees have deluged the Star with concerns. The TDSB has said it is aware of the problems but has done little in response.

People on the left wonder why the public rages against any proposed tax hike? It's because these people are wasting our money!!!

"TDSB workers given $253,000 in gift cards by union"

If I hadn't the personal experiences in the barrel, I would say 'UNBELIEVABLE."

But I have.

I could pass on a lot of them, but the bile rises. Union workers get a coffee break. However, 'they want to have coffee together, so truck after truck goes across town so they can trough in the same sty. It takes some more time (gas) to get there then they should take for their break.

Only to be exceeded by the government using limos to go to and fro on a five minute walk when shuttle buses are available!

Or an owner I knew of a forge company that wanted a new house, so, he built a new plant office and charged the house construction to the office 'job.' Of course then he could show they were losing money and deny raises.

Or the ....never mind.........
