I agree with the policeman that the guy was warned and refused to take down the sign. It was distracting and prevented sight lines out the back window for the driver. Why does the guy not just put the sign up over his front door?

I find many of those other messages on rear windows distracting "child in car" etc but at least these do not cover most of the window so the driver can still see out.

I do not think the problem was the message - it was the placement of the medium.

I completely disagree. As far as I know, a vehicle doesn't need clear sight lines out the rear window, since many vans and trucks don't even have back windows or the windows are 100% blocked.

As for driving distractions, it's just a sign. There's millions of signs/billboards, including political signs, on the sides of streets that are equally or more distracting. It's not like it was flashing with blue lights or something. There's lots of commercial vehicles painted with pictures, words & advertising all over them. I hope this is stuck down in court.

Wow that's scary. An article update says they removed the gag order because of the controversy. What a control freak, an authoritarian. No wonder he and Putin don't get along

That it blocked sight lines in the back of the car OK that I can understand.

In more recent news much worse censorship: http://ipolitics.ca/2015/08/08/participants-at-conservative-events-must-agree-to-gag-order/

I was at the event in Winnipeg last week. There was no "vetting". If you've ever entered your name on the CPC web site expressing interest in the party, you got an invite. There was no gag order either.

Well, but you're a conservative, and what you just said then didn't come from the CBC, so it has to be a lie. So sorry..

I thought that anything that is enticing you to take your eyes off the road is a distraction. But you may be correct about the legality.

A friend of mine who had an eccentric sense of humour, used to have a large "picture" on the back passenger side window. It was a picture or a heavy set man bent over with his rear facing out the window. He had a string connected to the picture which when pulled, the mans pants went down to "moon" whoever was looking.

He tried it once too often and the last time he used it was on an unmarked police car.

Haha, well what happened after that? What did the police do?

Don't know. Saw that it had disappeared and when I asked he said sadly "Don't ask".
