Are you serious? If you are really concerned about Canadians' safety in Mexico, I suggest you never go to Jamaica. Want to go to the safest country for Canadians? USA! B) - or the UK.

Topaz, I don't usually support your positions but on this one, I doff my hat to you! Your response was priceless!

If I get such a phone call myself I will steal your answer! :P

Thank you!

Sorry to hear your job went to Mexico. Mine is still here. But of course I'd be willing to pay taxes to provide some job training for you so as to help get back to work and pay your taxes.

The jobs are there; you just need the right qualifications... and, oh yes, be more reasonable in your salary demands. Entitlements, entitlements, eh? Why should your job stay in Canada if Mexicans ca do the job more efficiently?

Mexico is safe for Canadians, too. What I was saying was meant to be tongue in cheek in response to the ludicrous idea of trying to lure Canadians down to Mexico to kill more of you. But Cuba is not more safe for Canadians than the US; as I said, the US is the safest, along with the UK. The five-year average of the number of Canadians assaulted or killed while visiting Cuba is 1.5 per 100,000; the five-year average of the number of Canadians assaulted or killed while visiting the United States is .03.

No Canadian Deaths in Cuba, while a number of Canadian deaths in the US less then 10 but it still makes it more likely to die in the US then Cuba if you are Canadian.

"Safety" involves more than deaths, it also involves assaults; in fact, it was a violent assault on a Canadian tourist who was beaten within an inch of her life that most recently made headlines regarding the safety of Canadian tourists in Mexico.

Looking at statistics for both regarding Canadian tourism in Cuba and the U.S., the U.S. is the safer destination of the two. The incidence of deaths from 2000 to 2010 was almost identical (0.048 per 100,000 in the United States in 2010 vs. 0.044 per 100,000 in Cuba) while the assault rate was higher in Cuba (1.547 per 100,00 in Cuba vs. 0.040 per 100,000 in the United States). The overall violence rate of Cuba is 1.591 per 100,000 while the overall violence rate for the U.S. is .088 per 100,000. As I said, the U.S. is a safer destination for Canadian tourists than Cuba.

No Canadian Deaths in Cuba

That's because Canadian's don't usually go out of their resort while in Cuba. In fact, you're not suppose to.

Ok,that's just it, the mexicans aren't going it more EFFICIENTLY. The product is brought back to the US, Texas, the product is gone over to make sure nothing is wrong within the product. The work done cheaper, but quality isn't there. BTW, no matter how much job training one gets if you are OVER a certain age, no one will hire you. Being reasonable with salary demands, how much is that to you? $5.00, $10.00 $15.00 hrly ? What benefits? What are you getting?

Even if that's true, there were deaths of Canadian tourists in Cuba, almost to the same tune as in the U.S. - while the assault rate in Cuba is most definitely higher. The U.S. is a safer tourist destination than Cuba. That's a fact.

I have been to Cuba a number of times and every time I have gone to the nearby town/city and so far I have not seen anything that would suggest it is dangerous. When I go to Cuba they have encouraged us to go and visit the towns and cities and I have never seen any acts of aggression by Cubans. The only violence against Canadians in Cuba that I have witnessed was by fellow Canadians and the Cubans took care of those troublemakers.

Regardless of what you personally have witnessed, the stats speak for themselves - and the U.S. is a safer tourist destination for Canadians than Cuba is, in spite of your reluctance to accept it. :)

After Nafta, many companies moved to Mexico. The ones requiring more skilled-labour however moved back. So no, not all jobs went to Mexico and some even came back. Now it's just a matter of getting the necessary qualifications. Let the Mexicans compete price-wise and let us compete education-wise. The jobs are there. Just get off your butt, get the education you need and start working. Again, if the issue is lack of money for your education, I'm all for paying taxes to help provide you with the training you need, since I'd rather pay a little more for you now and get you back into the workforce filing in those positions in industries currently experiencing labour shortages! to start paying your taxes rather than pay less but for many years supporting you on social assistance.

The jobs are there and in fact some industries are experiencing shortages! What do you mean the jobs aren't there. We may have lost many of the unskilled jobs, but the skilled jobs are there aplenty. It's just a matter of the government giving them the training they need.
