Shady Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 I am not an idiot and the two of you are the last posters that I would expect a personal attack from. I am very disappointed. I wasn't personally attacking you. I was attacking what you said because I don't find it at all resembling reality. Quote

Guest American Woman Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 We're glad that you're glad....but anybody really following this race and money didn't give Santorum much of a chance in the first place. He could still come back as a veep candidate just to ruin your day in Canada. Santorum's already said that he would accept a VP nomination, and it sounds as if Romney hasn't ruled it out, so could be. Quote
jbg Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 Yes, his daughter is very sick, and it undoubtedly must affect the rest of the family. It probably weighs heavily on all of the Santorum family. Are you suggesting that she should be euthanized or something? Of course not. What I am suggesting is that he is wearing on his sleeve any decision not to abort. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Shady Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 Of course not. What I am suggesting is that he is wearing on his sleeve any decision not to abort. That may be how you see things. It certainly isn't the way I see it, or most people see it. I've only heard him mention his daughter twice. Once during the Florida primary when he had to go back home because she was sick, and then once this week. I guess we can agree to disagree. Quote

jbg Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 Picking the runner up as your #2 is a Canadian thing, not an American thing. Reagan did it with GHWB. Kennedy did it with LBJ. Other than that, in modern times, I suspect you're quite right. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Moonlight Graham Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 I bet this is exactly what happens. Think about it, it counters Romney's perceived 'liberalism" and delivers the extremely social conservative vote, not that it would have gone anywhere else though. Why does Romney want to target the "extremely social conservative vote"? It's only about 25% of the GOP electorate, so then maybe half that (10-15%?) of the general electorate. If he wants to win why not pick a liberal (about 30-40% of the general electorate), then he'd snag votes on all sides of the spectrum. Shady Posted April 12, 2012 Report Posted April 12, 2012 Why does Romney want to target the "extremely social conservative vote"? He doesn't, that's why he won't be picking Santorum. So far, some of the names I have heard are Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, Senator Rob Portman of Ohio, Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey, Governor Nikki Haley of South Carolina, and Governor Susana Martinez of New Mexico. I think he does want to target that vote, but Santorum isn't the way to do it, given the baggage Santorum has created for himself. I do agree with most of the names you selected, especially since achieving 40% or more of the Hispanic vote is a must-do, as well as getting Ohio and Florida.
