Finally, after 3 years of trying to get a settlement, the CAW in Chatham-Kent, has told Navistar either come back to the table in a fair bargain or we'll see you in court. The company wanted to take the factory from 800 workers to 100, and take away from of the benefits etc. The workers had given up 40 Mil on 2003, to keep the company going. The quality of the trucks were first rate, vendors always wanted Canadian made. My view is from 2003-09, Navistar built a plant down in Mexico so they could shut down Chatham and they have. So now, Navistar has to respect these workers and give them what they have earn and treat them as well as they have their management, which got 4 years of severance. Today, Navistar still have a few people working at the plant and paying for security, I am told. Clean-up with be in the millions and maybe that is why they are stalling becasue between the workers and the clean-up it going to cost them. http://www.chathamdailynews.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=3490745

It is obvious that the Navistar workers are just pawns in a CAW game that they cannot win. Ontario will continue to lose these manufacturing jobs as long as the union dinosaurs still roam.

Latest news is, the negotiators for the company, may not have told the higher ups the cost of closing the Chatham plant and I think maybe some heads may roll in head office. The main problem in Canada with all manufacturing is the Auto Pact went out the door with the Conservatives and so Canada lost the jobs.

Easy come...easy go. All those American jobs belong in...the USA! :)

I believe all those "American Jobs" head to Mexico and China more often then sweethomealabama

That's OK by me....Mexico and China don't assume the jobs were ever theirs the way Canadians do. But it is fun to listen to the CAW sing the blues (also American!).

AND unfortunately for Canadians, we have a PM that agrees, except were oil and gas industry are concerned.

More whining....better to spend the energy on growing domestic manufacturing. Canada use to have its own major makes of automobile....but that was a very long time ago.

What is the problem?

I looked an I looked, and I can't find anything in your accusation that supports your accusation.

Beyond disparaging anti- Tory rhetoric by political losers.

Wonder if Navistar's losing the contract to supply diesel engines for Ford pickups and other light duty vehicles has anything to do with this.

Really? Ok, where are all the jobs? Out West. Whose pushing the pipeline? Harper. Is Harper working as hard to bring jobs elsewhere in Canada? Doesn't seem like it? Harper does help to create jobs in maunfacturing, he destroys them, especially if there's a union involved.

I heard through the grapevine that the drug wars are starting to affect foreign businesses now there now and that Navistar may have to leave Mexico til things quite down.

Where is all the oil and low corporate tax rates? Out West. Who's spent so much on Green energy subsidies that Ontario's credit rating was cut and corporate tax breaks may have to be reduced or ceased? Dalton. Our premier isn't exactly laying out a welcome mat for companies unless they have "green" somewhere in their name.
