I still don't think "tonite" is 1337 though. It's not even in the library you linked.

So pron, pwn, epoch, are leet but tonite isn't?

He also used "ur" that has to be leet.

If not leet at least it's internet speak like LOL and OMFG.

Uh, do you remember how long the MLW thread about the massage parlour was and how harsh some of the posts were?

I don't think anyone here is saying that Clement should be fired over this or that this is proof of his incompetence or anything. It's just kind of funny.

I remember people were defending Pierre Trudeau's POS blast because Peter Kent is clearly a POS. Well my thesis is that this kid is clearly a Jack Ass. :D

I have no idea why these people keep using tweet. All it does is get people in trouble. If you're a public figure, you have no business 'tweeting' all your thoughts on things. Nobody will take notice of your boring little tweets, but you know that the slightest misstep is going to get you hammered.

I do think it's more noteworthy when a cabinet minister acts like a POS than when a 15-year-old acts like a jackass.

I have to agree. Tony has a petulant streak in him and has for some time. He takes criticism poorly and is well known to be a lying blowhard.

Google Tony's famous "I saved drowning people" when in fact Tony didnt want to get wet and his elderly in laws were the ones who jumped in.

This.

Two tier Tony has a history of twitter mistakes. Those who follow him would know this already.

My thesis is...thanks to Tony, this kid will never vote Conservative now.

Hmm...maybe Tony needs to tweet more... :D

Tony decided to try and take on someone of his level of intellect, and failed.

Go team conservative!

:D

Maybe they should invite the kid for questioning at the next session in the HOC, so they can all gang up on him!

Well, "pwn" and "pr0n" and "teh" are definitely post-Internet and are all parodies of common typos that happen when you type fast. "Lol" and "omfg" are Internet slang that come from common abbreviations used in old-style chat/message board days. "Tonite" predates the Internet, surely? I never thought of it as a net-dork thing at all. There's even a doo-wop song "Tonite Tonite" by the Mello Kings from 1957. Your own link seems to back me up (as does the regular Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet)

Isn't "tonite" American English spelling and "tonight" British English spelling? Seems like Tony rather be American and Harper is trying so hard pushing the Royal family and Canada's British ancestry.

NO, tonite is an obsolete explosive compound of barium nitrate and gun cotton. Americans correctly spell it as "tonight".

I think the most overlooked point is this:

Pettinger replied to Clement that he wasn’t aware of using that spelling, but then said, in a couple of Twitter replies: “I must admit that my spelling and grammar is not great. I’m sorry for calling you out . . . . I just wanted someone so involved with my and Canada’s money to spell properly.

Yes he is a jackass. "My" money? Give me a break you're 15 years old, what money?

Two part question... Out of curiosity, is there any critic of this government that you BC members won't attack? Is there any member of this government that you won't defend despite horrible judgement or just plain old stupidity?
