With 'libs' yes, but the diminutive 'con' is often used in a pejorative form as in conning people, con artist, etc.

I call people trolls, racists or bigots when their arguments indicate as much. When you make a bigoted post, I'm going to call it bigoted. And I didnt' make the rules, so I fail to see how that makes me a hypocrite.

i can call you a hypocrite here cause you are being one

Quite simply, it lowers the level of discourse on the forums by weaving derision into your posts rather than relying on the quality of your arguments and ideas.

you say this yet you justify calling people offensive names

you are the biggest hypocrite on this forum bar none

I reported them twice 2 days a go, I got a msg back saying they were within the rules

Well now, you have to remember there's only one guy interpreting the rules, and he can interpret them any old way he feels like interpreting them. I find the idea you can suggest people are Nazis and that's within the rules more than a little flabbergasting. I was once suspended for words which "bring down the decorum of the discussions" because I was mocking someone and saying they were lying.

It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy

I said that I'm guilty of doing it too. I'm not really sure what your point is. Yes. I'm a hypocrite because I do the same thing. It still doesn't change the fact that it's against the rules. I'm just trying to explain the rules. I've been warned in the past and I'm sure I'll be wanred in the future. That doesn't change anything that I've said.

If someone says, "your ideas are like those of the Third Reich because A, B, and C," that's a lot different than saying, "stfu, Nazi scum!" One is criticizing you and the other is criticizing your ideas. There is a difference.

no it is the same thing just in different wording

I don't use Con or Lib. It's just as easy to use LPC or CPC and it keeps the tone more civil. People frequently use "Cons" pejoratively, as well. Discussions get heated enough with the issues, we don't need to be adding insults to the mix.

Using CPC and LPC is better i agree. But i still honestly don't sense anything negative in the use of Libs or Cons. Never heard "Cons" used pejoratively, but maybe that's just me?

There's the Con's and there's a con...

Unfortunately,a certain cadre of ideologically driven crybabies here seem to get their kilts in a knot over that...

If you're going to make racist and bigoted argument, then don't be surprised if people call you a racist or a bigot.

I really do think that all liberals should be referred to as liberals---- that in itself is deserving and no one forces them to be liberals. If they are liberal    they deserve the shame along with the rest of the party.

I think it would be shameful to belong to any of these parties, they are all pathetic

they mostly go by party lines ..its like they don't have their own free will

I can make sense of some things the cpc have done, and what the liberals and ndp want to do

but these mps rarely go against their party

so much for my mp representing me

and when they do go against their party in voting they get punished like those 2 NDP mps

Most of the time when someone calls another poster a racist or a bigot on this forum, it's because that poster is making racist or bigoted arguments. There is a difference between talking about a person's arguments and insulting that person directly.

None of that matters though. You seem to have a problem with me explaining the rules to you. If you don't like the rules, that's not my problem. I already admitted that I've called people names and have insulted people on the forum. I've admitted to being warned by the administration, as well.

The closest I came to chiding was saying we could all do better, myself included. Everything else I said was an explanation of the rules that are posted at the top of the forum and they certainly weren't written by me.

so a person isn't getting personal with you but making general arguments you disagree with and YOU personally attack them

so who is the bad one there? you disagree with them so you call them names

they aren't calling you names theyre just saying something you disagree with

you come out looking like an asshole

What are you talking about? If someone makes a racist argument, a poster is not allowed to call them on it? Is that what you're saying? It has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing with anything (although I hope I would disagree with most racist and bigoted arguments).

Regardless, that still has nothing to do with what originally got us down this line of discussion, which is the forum rules. You're pissed off at the administration here because they wouldn't ban people who said you're arguing like a Nazis did and you're taking it out on me. I'm not the one that said you're a Nazi, so give it a rest. All I've done in this thread is explain the rules and answer your questions about how saying certain things is insulting. I'm not claiming to be above the rules or to never have broken them myself.

I think it makes you feel good to call people names. It makes you feel big to bully people who do not share your views.

So go ahead. Carry on big man.

Like calling me "big man", a "cliche", "asshole", or "Peter Kent" (in the context of Trudeau just calling him a "piece of shit" during QP)? You've done nothing but call me names here, as you criticize me for calling people names.

As far as the Nazi thing goes, these are the posts in question:

Indeed........I read and own a (Translated) copy of Mein Kampf.....aside From the actual opinions in which the author expressed, his way in conveying his ideas and his usage of various literary devices, not to mention his numerous contradictions of himself, reminds me of a great many of olp1fan's posts......In fairness though, when compared to English sentence structure, German sentences tend to seem to ramble on……. ;)

Here, Derek doesn't even call you a Nazi. He says the way you convey your ideas, use various literary devices, and contradict yourself in your posts reminds him of the way Mein Kampf was written. It's a discussion of your literary style.

I find appalling how many canadians in this forum have views that would fit right in the Third Reich point it out and it's met with "Godwins Law"!...65 yrs ago my dad was shooting people that held similar beliefs, then he moved to canada to get far away from them only to find them here as well...

Here, wyly doesn't specifically refer to you, but many Canadians and actually refers to the posters' views. Your views are open for criticism. That's not personal. Talking about your aptitudes, like intelligence or ability to understand things is not discussing your views, but insulting you. Even if he did call you a racist or a bigot, these would be about your views and if you made racist or bigoted arguments, I don't see the problem in calling you on it.

In any case, I wasn't part of that exchange because frankly I don't see the comparison. So keep raging about being called names and blaming me. I used to like your posts before you became so touchy.

and you still don't get it cyber, it seems like you never will!

People who are made of glass should not throw stones

btw you never say that is a bigoted comment you just outright call them a bigot or racist

one is attacking the comment the other is attacking the poster

learn the difference genius

Still with the personal insults, implying that I'm too stupid to "get it", while you talk about throwing stones in glass houses. Who do you think you're fooling?

like I said, you will never get it

you do not call the comment bigoted or racist you call the poster a bigot or racist

one is attacking the comment the other is attacking the poster

I bet a 6 year old could tell the difference

Cool story.

You know when someone makes bigoted and racist comments and arguments that generally makes them a bigot or a racist, right?

When someone says "I refuse to serve Muslims because their culture is backwards and primitive," they're a bigot. Putting your own culture, religion, and ethnicity above others' is the same as believing yours is superior. That is practically the dictionary definition of bigotry. So, if someone is going to make comments like that, you're damn right I'm going to call them a bigot or a racist.
