CBC loses court case

Yes, indeed, CBC is undoubtedly being totally irrespnsible with taxpayers' money and I say get those bastards. Let us teach them once and for all that if they can't pattern themselves after the Harper government whose modus operandi is above all else transparency and accountability, then let the CBC pay the price. Surely we can all agree that Fox North will be a great substitute for the CBC. Oh joy to the way things are unfolding. Besides, I think democracy is highly over-rated, so let's cut to the chase and nail our first institutional scapegoat. Grab your hatchets and ready for attack.

Nice! :lol::lol::lol:

You know Boges, I think it's even worse than that. I'm betting what they're really afraid of is everyone finding out their accounting is in a mess!

They've never been accountable for how they spent their money before, not to the people of Canada or to any bank for corporate financing. If they ran a deficit the federal gov't would always have to bail them out.

So their books are probably a total mess! Like a teenager who has had the house to himself all summer and suddenly learns his parents are cutting their vacation short a few weeks early and will be home that evening!

If this is what is revealed it will be a far worse scandal than just where they spent their money. It would show that even the CBC doesn't know where and how much!

Reminds me of the Harper Conservative budget, remember the one with made up numerals  , probably all smoke and mirrors. Mabey money spent in Quebec! Nothing riles the rage of neo cons more than all that money turning French when it should be subsidizing tar sands. :(

Heritage Minister Moore defends CBC

I love it when this sort of thing happens.

OTTAWA—Heritage Minister James Moore is speaking out in defence of the CBC, in the face of what seems to be a growing Conservative clamour against the public broadcaster.

But Moore also confirmed that CBC is under challenge from Conservative MPs and their constituents; that it will have to make do with a smaller budget next year, and that CBC anchor Peter Mansbridge may well want to voluntarily reveal his salary to critics who are now demanding more transparency.

In a speech to the International Institute of Communications on Tuesday morning, Moore said Canada needs the CBC and its French counterpart, Radio-Canada, and he singled them out for praise, in both languages, for their reach into new technology and communities not served by the private sector.

“CBC/Radio-Canada’s engagement of both official languages, and indeed eight aboriginal languages in the North, is not something the private sector and the free market is doing easily or willingly, and it’s not happening across the country,” Moore said.

What's this? A Minister in the cabinet actually coming out and dilineating where the mainstream ends and fringe starts? Most excellent.

“Far be it from me to tell a member of Parliament not to express their privately or publicly held views with regard to Canada’s public broadcaster,” Moore said. “There are Canadians who are frustrated by the appearance of a lack of transparency at the CBC. … So I think that members of Parliament taking these actions, acting on their own — acting on their own — is an important part of them representing their constituents and fighting for transparency.”

Yes "far be it" for Moore to tell "a member?" The real messages is that "a member" are the looney backbenchers that don't have a clue about the CBC. And yeah, they were just told.

Hold the centre fellas, at all costs.

Come on, where are all the anti-CBC people? They have been awfully quiet since the cadre of the Fearless Leader has come out firmly on the side of the CBC.

I think you anti-CBCers should be ranting and raving against Harper by now. You elected his majority, shouldn't they be listening to you? Where's the accountability now?

What's up? Here's what's up:

CBC to get money it needs to get to 2015: Moore

The affirmation, delivered to a Commons committee on Thursday, is a clear rebuff to some Conservatives and CBC critics who have been calling for an abrupt end to the $1.1-billion that goes every year to the public broadcaster.

Moore’s statement, in fact, is the strongest indication yet that Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government will continue to stand by CBC and its French counterpart, Radio-Canada, in a coming year of sharp cutbacks across the board in public spending.

Hmmmm……imagine that, another Conservative, that’s from Coquitlam BC, that’s in favour of keeping the CBC…….coincidence?

In other news, just saw a preview (well watching CBC morning News) for a new CBC drama that might actually be interesting: Arctic Air
