Boges Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 (edited) A more interesting character in this story is the Assistance Coach McQueary. He's the one who witnessed the assault and instead of calling the police he told JoePa. He hasn't been fired but put on administrative leave due to death threats. I can't see him continuing to be a coach in the NCAA. I see him being put in a rock and a hard place. He probably should have called the police immediately but then he probably would have hurt his upward mobility in a program that clearly was thinking about it's reputation more than the welfare of the kids Sandusky assaulted. It's an interesting Case Study on what's the right thing to do. It's similar to an innocent bystander witnessing a crime by a member of a gang. In order for justice to be done you would have to testify and risk your well being. I'm sure that's what this coach was thinking at the time. Hindsight can say he was dead wrong but it's a really tough spot to be in. Edited November 12, 2011 by Boges Quote
Shwa Posted November 13, 2011 Author Report Posted November 13, 2011 I'm sure that's what this coach was thinking at the time. Hindsight can say he was dead wrong but it's a really tough spot to be in. What aspect of his "well-being" would have been threatened by him going to the police at the time he witnessed the child being sodomized? Quote

It's similar to an innocent bystander witnessing a crime by a member of a gang. In order for justice to be done you would have to testify and risk your well being. It turns out that it is not a straightforward resolution either, as arrest and conviction for the crime in the state of Pennsylvania requires certain elements that are hard to prove, regardless of what McQueary may have witnessed. The D.A. may not have taken the case forward. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
blueblood Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 NCAA investigating Penn State. Interestingly football is worth approx 75 million to that school. If the NCAA institutes the death penalty, it might be a death penalty for the school.
