Yeah some people I know who may be more nuetral politically actually find Copps to be a strong force that they support.

The talk of the presidency doesn't often get to much attention so it is a bit of a suprise that CTV is reporting this.

This quote is quotable for why she seeks to run for the presidency:

"I've got the seven-year itch and it needs scratching."

On a side note, is she dying her hair light?

Lots of media are reporting on it, why wouldn't they, she's well known and no reason why she shouldn't run.

Maybe they should show her on the news in her wet suit again :)

Save the whales!

I dunno, Saipan! I've always lived with Sheila in my neighbourhood and I cheerfully admit that I've never had any use for her type of politics.

That being said, I've met her upon occasion and I can't help but like her as a person! She's a ferocious fighter but she's not always very good at understanding if she's backing the right cause to fight for!

Sorta like Jack Layton. Many of us consider the NDP political philosophy to be downright loopy but few can deny that Jack was a nice guy who could get along with anybody. It's strange that Jack would never have demanded that you agree with his politics before you could have his friendship or respect when so many in his party do so every day, at every opportunity if someone doesn't drink their Kool-Aid.

All that is moot, anyway. She was extremely popular among a large segment of the Liberal membership and electorate. Now she is running for Party President, which is a position where she won't be standing for election but will have a great deal of influence in trying to straighten the Liberal Party out of its problems.

Who cares if WE like her! We don't vote Liberal anyway! At least, not the past while. I could imagine a time when I might again vote Liberal! Not if I see another Ignatieff and Dion, however. The question is, could Sheila be successful in making the Liberals a viable, electable party again?

She has always been a tenacious fighter, as I said. I wouldn't make the mistake of not taking her seriously.

Actually it was him who gave internal orders to MPs to change their vote and go with Liberals on long gun registration. Several NDPs (including our MP Carol Hughes, Algoma/Manitouulin, the largest area) initially voted to scrap the registry.

I always liked Sheila Copps. But, if the Liberal Party is serious about renewal, I don't see Sheila playing a major role in that renewal. IMO she is just too reminiscent of the Liberal Party era most Liberal supporters want to put behind them.

You may prove right! It would be interesting to watch, though!

And how. If there's one adjective I'd use to describe Sheila it is flamboyant. She would sure spice things up.

That makes sense! Both Capricorn and I could prove right! Sheila would make the Liberal Party strong again, just not so strong that they could actually get back into power! They need a few more terms of opposition to breed the arrogance out of them.

Siobhan Coady will likely announce her candidacy soon and I hope she wins.

I'll have to check her out. Frankly, I've never heard of her! Is that just me or is she only known in certain areas? That could be a problem for her. Sweeping your home town is not much good if you don't get any votes anywhere else.

Thaat is great news about Copps if you don't support the Liberals.

My first memory about Copps is her participation in a telivised debate about the Charlottetown Accord. Sharon Carstairs was there, a professor from Quebec and somebody from the Tories, cannot remember who that was. Anyways, 'particpation' is too strong.....

Carstairs was a clever person, the two guys were OK, but Copps..... It wasn't that I disagreed with her views, but it was evident early that she had no grasp at all of the issues, none. She came across as shrill and not very smart. Carstairs tried a couple of times to rescue her from embarassing herself, but there was no stopping her. Nothing she had said or done since has changed that impression.

The government should do something.

She was one of the most high profile female Liberal MPs from 2008-2011 and would be better known within the Liberal Party. She has been lobbied by Liberals to run for the presidency and has stated there would be major changes if she was elected. Had she not been defeated in May her name would definitely be brought up for the leadership.
