Boges Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 Take a look at most of the channels and track the time and ratio of show to commercials. You are watching 2-3 times more commercials than you were 20 years ago in a given time frame. Sure is nice to watch all the ads in HD. That's why God created DVRs. BTW my cable provider has an a la carte package so I can pick 5 or more channels. But for some channels that doesn't work. Quote

guyser Posted September 2, 2011 Report Posted September 2, 2011 CBC was granted a 1 year extension by the CRTC. They will still be transmitting an analog signal. Yup ! Good news for me since I have bush cable in the bunkie and could get CBC, CTV North Bay and TVO, now only CBC. Oh well, good movies on in the summer. The cottage has sat , but not the bunkie Quote
guyser Posted September 2, 2011 Report Posted September 2, 2011 My wife likes watching Movies. We have TMN. . Come on....be honest, you both watch TMN4 at midnight dont ya ? Quote
Wild Bill Posted September 5, 2011 Report Posted September 5, 2011 Well, the digital switch was 3 days ago now. Can anyone confirm if the world has ended? Bryan Posted September 5, 2011 Report Posted September 5, 2011 Cable TV is great. I find it hilarious that people think streaming and downloading their shows is better than watching shows from your sofa in Full High Def. Cable TV is a huge waste of money. My 50" Plasma screen, an Apple TV that wirelessly syncs to my iTunes library, and a Netflix account, and I've got more options than I could ever watch. If I really wanted the current shows, I could always connect an HDMI cable from my Mac to the Plasma. Quote
jacee Posted September 5, 2011 Report Posted September 5, 2011 No but my tv has. Not a digital converter to be found - all sold out. Guess I'll have to break down and buy a digital tv. I'm sure not going back to paying for cable. That Shaw stunt just reminds me why. They're sharks. Quote

It's nice for when there's nothing on TV you and your wife can agree on I guess. Movie Network with a DVR is much better. Cable and Satellite also offer onDemand services that doesn't eat up as much bandwidth. Without cable you actually have to plan what you're going to watch and download from a bit torrent. Which is illegal. My in-laws have Apple TV. It's kind of cool but it's totally pay-per-view for much of what you want to get. You also can the same functionality from a simple 6-year-old Xbox 360. Bonam Posted September 5, 2011 Report Posted September 5, 2011 Can anyone confirm if the world has ended? Yes. Looking out my window, I can clearly see that the sky has fallen, pigs are flying (above the fallen sky), and hell is buried 2 km deep under advancing glaciers. Quote
Boges Posted September 5, 2011 Report Posted September 5, 2011 (edited) I find it absolutely hilarious that the CBC, a company that receives over a billion dollars in public money refuses to make the switch because they can't afford it. While the private Canadian broadcasters all have complied. The CBC says that they need more money from the government to make the switch. Edited September 6, 2011 by Boges Quote

cybercoma Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 I would like to know if Rogers will no scrap it's Digital Service Fee, since they can no longer broadcast analog signals. Here in NB, they haven't offered analog cable in who knows how long; yet, they still charge you every month a digital service fee. Quote
