I was just reading an article on US new cyber war guidelines, and I was suprised to read that they will premap potential routes through "friendly" nations, that can be used in the event of hostilities. Likewise they will pursue cyber attackers through friendly nations. This includes taking down servers and other actions.

"The guidelines also make clear that when under attack, the U.S. can defend itself by blocking cyber intrusions and taking down servers in another country. And, as in cases of mortar or missile attacks, the U.S. has the right to pursue attackers across national boundaries — even if those are virtual network lines."

Is the Canadian government going to let the US knock down any servers that it feels are helping people in their war.

This could be Canadian news sites, businesses, communications forums, pretty much any Canadian server out there -- -say blackberries were being used, suddenly RIM's enterprise servers become fair game.

Is Canada prepared to stop an attack by their 'ally' I'm just very surprised the Pentagon has said they will (this said indirectly) knock down Canadian servers if it in anyway doesn't serve their interests or is a part of an attack. Or even your own computer if taken over could be made inoperable. There are probably thousands upon thousands of Canadian zombies, and the US is effectively saying it will take your computer out if it decides to.

What does Canada think of that? What do you think of the US saying it will take out your computer or disrupt your communications, and openly say that they will? Shouldn't Canada insure that doesn't happen, that their own citizens computers are made inoperable, that business servers and websites are shut down by the US military. That is sort of an issue isn't it, or is it?

Bear in mind this could even be Canadian Government servers, since even the Canadian government has been hacked. Suddenly gc.ca just disappears because it could have been compromised and represents a risk to the US. This is the reality that the US openly admits to be fair game.

"We must be able to defend and operate freely in cyberspace"

"We must institute strict oversight to ensure that no personal communications or sensitive data are inappropriately shared with the government by businesses,"

This saying the US will pass on private communications from any country (foreign business or individual) to US companies.

Note news of the world just got shutdown by "hackers"

Now imagine the same thing happening to CTVglobe.

I don't imagine the US is going to attack vital government servers from friendly nations. It's more likely that the US will be cooperating closely with Canadian and other allied governments to provide a united front against potential cyber-attackers. They'll want our security to be top-notch and our cyber police will be working with their cyber police.

NEWS FLASH - Cyber war and the internet in general are NOT real... Cyber space is much like two people in a huge totally dark room yelling to other faceless entities and attempting to describe what can not be seen or varified - a word of advice - don't take this silly technology to serously or it will rule and ruin you - What is real is eye to eye - face to face - flesh on flesh..Whey you believe in something you can make it more real and more dangerous than it is - I don't believe in cyber space - or it's silly bloodless wars...............only idiots and fanceful cowards do.

Well MB, I've had some personal experience over the years with governments and computers. Frankly, they always struck me as the most primitive users on the planet, with the possible exception of the teaching profession.

I've got stories personally witnessed on both provincial and federal scales that would curl your hair! Try googling "Hyperion" computer for a good laugh! After you've read the Wiki info I'll give you the inside scoop, that they don't want you to know. I was there!

The only "close cooperation" the US could offer would be to SCRAP our systems and build new ones for us.

Ever wonder why you can't communicate with tax departments by email? They'll tell you it's a security thing. That's actually partially true! They're so primitive that if they accepted email they'd be wide open for the most casual of hackers.

When you spell insantity..call me --- what is an "inanity"??? Look if there is a cyber problem - you simply turn off all the computers and do things the old fashioned way _ we are not that computer dependent...just unplug the damned thing and let the enemy battle it out by themselves in the dark.....To let some digital machine rule the roost or some ninety pound nerd kid hired by the government of China scare you is bizarre...never fear a person on line that you can punch out in real life....lol

Eventually the advesary has to make a physical appearance and it will be like the Wizard of OZ - "don't pay attention to that man behind the curtain" _ all the cybering amounts to nothing....If cybering starts to effect buisness - American nukes - then isolate and keep things internal - there is a great weakness to this technology - it needs to be plugged in.

A good example of the unplug method is when there was this digital finacial panic spreading around the globe - infecting one market than the other - the TSX was smart - they declared themselves down and avoided billions in losses - simple solutions sometimes are the best.

Our technical experts must start to explore the less technical methods for the maintaining of security. China - and others...are to stupid to be dumb enough to be smart. Just like an old fashioned land line - you don't want info going in and out...cut the line - take a walk and talk. Let those who are thrilled and enamured by high tech continue to gain confidence in cyber attacks - then when it reaches near critical mass - you pull a fast one and with draw form the game - they will choke because their thirst for more high tech solutions is unquechable. Human being can phyiscally move about - they have this high tech thing called a brain and voice box - computers are still and never will be a match for human intelligence and unpredictablity.

It's not about catching criminals. It is about control. And what they want to control is information and how you and I obtain it. Because money is no longer the ultimate power (never was, it was only perceived as the ultimate power). Since knowledge is power, and the information is how you gain knowledge, they want to control what kind of information you get.

To late...those that have understanding can spread the knowledge by mouth...like a single file to freedom - one person at a time...the seeds have been planted and by the time the power mongers have figured out that the net might be a danger to the status quo it will be to late - which it is now...no one can take away what has been done already..The disease is frimly within the human global body - and the beast was just a tad to slow - because those that are evil tend to communicate at a slow and careful pace - those that are good tend to commnicate quickly and openly and freely...it's over....we won.....L O finkin L.

I wasn't saying insanity. I was saying inanity. Look up "Inane" and then call me.

I'm trying to say your posts are emptyheaded and worthless. You generally blab for entire paragraphs without actually presenting a coherent or relevant statement, and while I might wonder about your 'sanity', I certainly have no doubt as to how inane your posting generally is.
