Huston
There's a really old concept called "noblesse oblige". If you were the lord of the manor, you had responsibilities. If invaders were ransacking the countryside, you had to shelter your serfs inside your keep. If famine struck, you had to feed the serfs from your stores. So, champagne socialism has actually been around for a very long time. -k But in the end, it was not really socialism. Just obligation or the notion that slaves must be treated within a certain level of care. The rich and nobility are created through a system of artificial privilege brought about through the state. More like champagne obligation.
Jack Weber
Many years ago, I attended a campus meeting of the Young Conservatives. Ever since then, I've been puzzled by denunciations of the "wine and cheese set" (which were sipped and nibbled in abundance), or of the "liberal elites" trope. In Ontario,we now have "Wine Tasting Tim",probably the next Premier....Acting as if he's "there" for the common man... "May I have a little Brie with that Cabernet Sauvignon?"... Shady
This is a classic case of a champagne socialist! The chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) appears to drive a foreign car, despite criticizing Republican presidential candidates for supposedly favoring foreign auto manufacturers. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), the chairwoman of the DNC, ripped into Republican presidential contenders who opposed President Obama's 2009 bailouts for General Motors and Chrysler. But... But according to Florida motor vehicle records, the Wasserman Schultz household owns a 2010 Infiniti FX35, a Japanese car whose parent company is Nissan, another Japanese company.“If it were up to the candidates for president on the Republican side, we would be driving foreign cars" Link Just like you, right lady? Pliny
This is a classic case of a champagne socialist! Debbie Wasserman is what I would classify a far left loon, along the lines of Maxine Waters, Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein and Al Franken - who never really abandoned his first career and is, as a politician, still searching for recognition as the brilliant comedian he thinks he is.
