Rea should run as leadr in the next election

Results:

CPC----------240

NDP---------- 61

Liberals-------3 (rae, kreetin, Harper)

Green----------4

The Tories will gain a stronger majority next election no doubt about it. They'll gain seats in Quebec who will be growing tired of not being in the seat of power, but they won't win 240. More like 175-180.

Not going to happen in 4 years they will have reached their best before date and will have no mandate to run on. Very few times in this country has someone lead for more then 10 years.

You, like the LPC, have learned nothing from this election. It's getting to the point of insanity.

It's ok Shady, I understand. I would be worried too if I were you and the Liberals had some one like Rae at point.

How long have you been saying these kinds of things? Majority wasn't going to happen this election either, right?

How does that work? You're not wrong, you're just not right yet?

Who knew the Liberal party would crash to nothingness. That doesn't mean that a government that finishes its mandate with no other mandate is going to be elected.

I did however call the 100 seats for the NDP, and I called NDP official opposition more then a year ago.

Macdonald, Laurier, King, Trudeau and likely Harper.

Chrétien backs away from Rae endorsement

---

Rae is "a good candidate," said Chrétien. "He's perfectly bilingual, he has a lot of experience but they might for some reason not select him," Chrétien told reporters following a speech in Quebec City.

Chrétien repeatedly said the future leader, and the future of the Liberal Party itself, is up to the party to decide. The idea of a Liberal-NDP merger down the road is being discussed as a potential scenario in the wake of the decisive majority won by the Conservatives in the May 2 election and the NDP's new role in the House of Commons as the Official Opposition.

"It's not for me to decide," said Chrétien. "It is for the leadership of the party to decide. I don't know what they will do, it's up to them."

Harper tried to kill the subsidy in 2008, sparking a rebellion by the opposition parties that nearly cost him his minority government. During the just-concluded election campaign, Harper said a majority Conservative government would phase out the system over two to three years in consultation with the other parties.

"I think [Harper] should reflect on that. The system is working very well," Chrétien told reporters in Quebec City Monday.

Chrétien noted that in his last election, in 2000, the Liberals spent only about two-thirds of the money that Hillary Clinton did to win her U.S. Senate seat.

"So, you know, it means that money in Canadian politics is less important than elsewhere, a lot less important," Chrétien said. "The parties receive it if they are serious, they receive a subsidy from the state. But they don't become prisoners of raising the money."

Jean Chretien should do the Liberal party a favour and STFU. The party must move forward and rebuild if it is to survive. All these Liberal fossils accomplish when they insert themselves in today's politics is to remind the voting public of Liberal rot.

Rae, is a good choice, only if he signals this as backing away from permanent leadership aspirations.

When the Liberals had no leader, after Dion imploded, and they were desperate for unity with a potential coalition looming, it was Rae who stepped aside, and let Ignatieff have it, for the good of the party.

He's an elder statesman who won't embarass the Liberals, while younger leaders figure out whether or not they want to run.

If they are looking for a placeholder for a leader they should just go back to Dion.

It doesn't matter who they select as interim leader. The third party will receive little air time in the House of Commons. And with Dion in place, no one will be sure what the heck he's talking about anyway.

Ok heres WWWTT take on this

The liberals are done, gone, finished, out to lunch, dead in the water, dust in the wind etc etc etc.

If you think there is still a chance then you are probably a conservative infiltrator that wants to hand over another majority to them in 4 yrs.

They need to start merging with the NDP.

Problem is that the NDP have all the trump cards now and the liberals are going to have to go through a freakin hell fire cleansing of anything right wing that is left in them.In other words Martin supporters are not invited to the NDP party.

Bob Rae is the person for the job!

Good luck liberals

Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! Total fail of the moderation on this site! That reminds me, never ask Greg to be a business partner! NEVER!

But really he isn't a contender but he his name plays with their base. I can't think of anyone else.

Jack already said that, as the official opp., he has no intention of merging with the Liberals.

Jack gets no say if Liberals want to merge. All they have to do is take out memberships and start lobbying for what they believe in from with in the party. The NDP is a grass roots party Jack doesn't get the say the members do.

Is Chrétien really so arrogant that he doesn't know he hurts his party by waving his hands around in the spotlight? Someone needs to call him up and say, "With all due respect, Sir, please stfu."

Libs are supposed to say that to their latest (after Iggy, but he lost) hero?

The government can't give anything to anyone without having first taken it from someone else.
