betsy Posted May 7, 2011 Author Report Posted May 7, 2011 (edited) Anybody noticed that the tv guys publicly didn't refer to Harper as Prime Minister even while he was sitting? They just called him "Harper." Did they treat Chretien the same way? I'm asking.... Edited May 7, 2011 by betsy Quote
Smallc Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 Anybody noticed that the tv guys publicly didn't refer to Harper as Prime Minister even while he was sitting? What are you talking about? They always call him Prime Minister Harper. During the campaign, while not on government business, they called him Conservative Leader Stephen Harper. Until two days after the campaign, when Haper went to visit the Governor General and told him that he could again form a government, he was just a caretaker PM. Quote

I was referring prior to the election....while the house was still standing. I watched CTV and CBC most of the time (Power Play and Solomon)....and when they do talk about him, I've never heard anybody refer to him by his title. Perhpas that's the in-thing nowadays.... Quote

Mr.Canada Posted May 8, 2011 Report Posted May 8, 2011 Yes, because the Tories won a majority now we must look at our democracy as broken...blah blah blah. If the Liberals had ruled the last 20 years straight means our democracy is golden. Oh God please spare me these fools. RNG Posted May 8, 2011 Report Posted May 8, 2011 Perhaps you should provide examples. I'm on Betsy's side. They did, both on CTV and CBC they just refer to him as "Harper". I think they should use "Most Honourable". Quote The government can't give anything to anyone without having first taken it from someone else.
bloodyminded Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 I do not agree. For years I read the Guardian. At that time it was the Manchester Guardian. I'm strong right. They are very strong left. And they brag about it. However, I really respect them, or at least them then. I haven't read them for some years now. Their editorial position, their op-eds etc were very left. But their news stories were very factual and insightful. And they kept it very obvious which was which. From what I've heard (from lefties) the Wall Street Journal is along similar lines: editorially, it tends definitely rightward, but its news reporting and analysis remains more or less separate, and above-average in quality. Noam Chomsky, no less, considers it one of the best paperts in the US. (By which he'd mean that it sucks, hard, but not quite as bad as the "liberal" NYTimes.)
