Who's Doing What? Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 This laughable. If any party were smearing Harper they would be running ads with Harper's creepy university picture that was in the paper a while back. He is simply not a very photogenic person. Quote Harper differed with his party on some key policy issues; in 1995, for example, he was one of only two Reform MPs to vote in favour of federal legislation requiring owners to register their guns. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/election/bio/harper.html "You've got to remember that west of Winnipeg the ridings the Liberals hold are dominated by people who are either recent Asian immigrants or recent migrants from eastern Canada: people who live in ghettoes and who are not integrated into western Canadian society." (Stephen Harper, Report Newsmagazine, January 22, 2001)
punked Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 You are certain that that is all there is to this story? Certain? Did you know I hear from someone it might have been sun news that Harper was caught 20 years ago NOT selling heroin. I bet you wont vote for Harper and will spend 35 pages talking about how Harper never sold Heroin. I know how much you support criminals over upstanding citizens so Harper must be scratched from your books eh? Quote
Guest American Woman Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Nice spin... actually Ms. Chow was on the committees or whatever at that time and would have known about the raids... http://www.torontosun.com/2011/04/29/layton-advocated-ban-on-lap-dancing "Committees or whatever?" You don't even know what she was on, yet you've concluded that she would have known? Your link says nothing about your claim. Furthermore, even if she would have known about raids, does that mean she knew about specific raids ahead of time, and if she did, what does that have to do with him? and for those who carehttp://twitter.com/#!/jonkay/status/64427654065033216 I would hope "those who care" would demand a source other than a Twitter post. Your post above is ridiculous. I want real criminals thrown in jail for a long time. Do you? Edited April 30, 2011 by lukin Quote
lukin Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 If there is something else, show it. Until then... since you seem to believe that SUNTV did such a great journalistic job, you won't mind if I base my opinion on what they reported, will you? It's the media's job to show it. However, i have little faith that will happen. Let's just see what transpires. Quote
CANADIEN Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 (edited) Furthermore, even if she would have known about raids, does that mean she knew about specific raids ahead of time, and if she did, what does that have to do with him? Well... she would have been able to warn him against certain specific establishments. Quite frankly, I think the media is missing the real story here. All along, Olivia Chow has worked to get her husband in a compromising position so she could get his job. Edited April 30, 2011 by CANADIEN Quote
CANADIEN Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 (edited) It's the media's job to show it. The media's job is to report on things that actually matter. It is not to waste ink talking about Harper bladder problems, or to jump in the gutter. Edited April 30, 2011 by CANADIEN Quote

I want real criminals thrown in jail for a long time. Do you? I think when you violate the criminal code you are a criminal. You only want to enforce crimes you deem wrong I want to apply the laws passed by elected officials to all people. I get it you think people should be allowed to break law and I don't. I am law and order you are soft on crime. You continue to show it by taking the word of someone being investigated for breaking the law over someone the police said did no wrong. Quote

Well, the idea that the SUN has uncovered something newsworthy is ridiculous too, yet you keep insisting the media sullies itself even more. Quote
noahbody Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 The way the NDP is being smeared by claims that they are communists bent on destroying personal liberties, to give one example. It's their platform that draws socialist comparisons. Harper has been dogged for years for having a hidden platform. Quote
CANADIEN Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 It's their platform that draws socialist comparisons. And it is past statements by Harper and members of the Conservative parties that have lead to claims he plans things he is not mentioning. Quite frankly, hyper-ventilated rhetorics like "Layton is a communist", "Liberals are telling parents how to raise their children" or "Harper is a dictator" raise more chuckles than anything else from me. The type of personal, sleezoid attack and turning a personal non-story into what it is not that we have witnessed since yesterday is another story. Quote
betsy Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 (edited) The mainstream tv media is not talking about this, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's under the radar. Social networks and places like Maple Leaf Forum are probably buzzing like beehives! Anyone been to other sites? Anybody got twitted? Btw, Nanos new poll today....Conservatives back up 9 point lead again at 38.something, NDP down a bit at 28.something and Liberals I think went back up to 22.something. So maybe the scandal resonated somewhere.....or people are starting to sober up. Edited April 30, 2011 by betsy Quote
kimmy Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Nice try. This kind of sleezoid "journalism" has not been visited on Harper. Communion wafers? -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

lukin Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Communion wafers? -k Apparently that was an anomaly. Just like Harper missing a photo because he was in the washroom. I've tired of the lame, biased media we have in this country....especially the CBC and CTV. at least CTV is private. Quote

punked Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 When did this scandal break? Sometime Thursday night, I assume? If not.... ...then people must me re-thinking. Nope it was last night around midnight. I think you are looking to much into a drop in a poll that has a MOE of 4-5%. Quote

Scotty Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 I really hope Ezra Levant can be sued for something: http://twitter.com/#!/ezralevant Was it really at 1:30am? If so that puts an entirely different light on it, but I haven't seen that anywhere else. Quote It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy
kimmy Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Sorry, but a twitter from a columnist from one of Canada's major media outlets is still nothing more than a twitter. If Jonathan Kay puts something on the public record, that's different from kimmy@mlw or AW@mlw writing anonymous speculation on a message board. It's relevant for 2 reasons. 1) some people have been asking "why did it take 15 years for this to show up? Howcome nobody found out about it before?" Well, here's a well known journalist from a major publication saying he was offered the story 2 years ago and didn't pursue it because he didn't have adequate information. 2) some people are convinced it was the Conservative backroom types behind this story. Well, Johnathan Kay says it was a Liberal backroom type who offered him the story earlier. This doesn't provide any further information about what Jack Layton actually did, but it provides some perspective to two of the major angles surrounding this news item. jonkay For those who care, someone tried to shop me the Layton-massage story 2 yrs ago (without docs). It was a Liberal fixer 1 hour ago jonkay I didnt bite because the source wasnt talking, and I couldnt get the cop's notebook through access-to-info, so I dropped it 1 hour ago jonkay @ Could have been Tories pushing the Layton-massage story this time. I dont know. But last time around, it was the Lib back office 1 hour ago jonkay And I mention this only because the leak itself has become the story -- with many folks unfairly assuming it must have been Tories 57 minutes ago jonkay Didnt pursue it because (a) source wasnt talking at the time, ( my access-to-info request for the necessary docs was denied 48 minutes ago -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
