cybercoma Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 I've thought the same thing. Does she speak French? I doubt it. Quote
Tilter Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 I agree that with Rae as permanent leader the Liberals have zero chance of forming government. But he can be an asset to the Liberal Party as they work toward rebuilding the party. It's unlikely the Conservatives will suffer a complete meltdown before the next election and will probably be re-elected to government. That means the Liberals playing the long game, namely to at least doubling their seat count and re-gaining official opposition status. The noises I'm hearing from the new Lib president Crawley is that he thinks along those lines. Damaged goods or not, a lot of Canadians, including me, want someone in opposition to keep the Conservatives in check. The NDP in official opposition leave a lot to be desired. So with Bob Rae stepping up to the plate, whatever baggage he carries around is inconsequential as long as he gets the job done. The NDP in official opposition leave a lot to be desired. And the liberals were so good at?????????????????????---- let's face it--- in Canada, present day there is only ONE political party. If the oppositions keep vacillating about leaders, policies, platforms & "face" Mr Harper will lead about 299 MPs into parliament in 2015 Quote
Newfoundlander Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 I'm assuming this race will be more exciting then the NDP's leadership race, but when will it kick off is what I'm wondering now? Quote
Newfoundlander Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 Former Liberal candidate David Bertschi may seek the leadership. http://www.ipolitics.ca/2012/03/15/former-ottawa-orleans-candidate-tests-liberal-leadership-bid-sonya-bell/ Quote
Newfoundlander Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 At a caucus meeting tomorrow, open to the media, Bob Rae will make a special announcement. Quote
Topaz Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 At a caucus meeting tomorrow, open to the media, Bob Rae will make a special announcement. One of the journalist on CBC, said that no one wants to run for leader of the Liberals and that Rae was doing a good job, so maybe, they won't need a leadership campaign. Quote

Topaz Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 When was this seeing they've already had several people say they were considering running. I heard it about two weeks ago but if there are people who want to run I haven't heard anyone. Quote
Newfoundlander Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 (edited) I heard it about two weeks ago but if there are people who want to run I haven't heard anyone. David Bertschi is taking pledge donations. Marc Garneau said he'd run if a younger candidate didn't come forward. Mark Holland, Martin Cauchon and Gerard Kennedy said they were considering it. Denis Coderre said he's either running for the leadership or mayor of Montreal. Borys Wrzesnewskyj said he may run. David McGuinty decided not be house leader because he was considering running, though he's supposedly out now. And Dominic LeBlanc has been considered to be a likely candidate. Now there is a weak weak list if I ever seen one. Marc Garneau stands out but he won his seat b what 500 votes last time? He is much like Ken Dryden a good man, a household name and a terrible politician seems like the last thing the Liberals need. Quote
Smallc Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Now there is a weak weak list if I ever seen one. Says the partisan New Democrat whose party just went through a snoozefest of a leadership debate. Quote
punked Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Says the partisan New Democrat whose party just went through a snoozefest of a leadership debate. Cause I remember when Dion or what Layton or when Harper won. Sorry to tell you leadership races are boring, doesn't mean there has to be a weak field. The last Liberal race had some heavy hitters, if that list Newfoundlander just posted is it, this isn't going to be that type of race. Quote

Sorry to tell you leadership races are boring, doesn't mean there has to be a weak field. So what's the NDP excuse? Other than Mulcair, in terms of people that Canadians in general will vote for, that was a pretty weak field. The last Liberal field was also, actually, a pretty weak field, full of no names who didn't really engage Canadians. We don't yet know what the next Liberal leadership race will look like. Take of your NDP hat, and quit jumping ahead and making yourself look silly. Oh, and no, leadership races are not generally as boring or disengaging as the NDP race that just finished was. What are you talking about? An Quebec Minister, a Nova Scotia Opposition leader, A national Union leader. There was no shortage of political fire power on stage, I am speaking about people who can get people to vote for them. That is all I was talking about. Yah I remember so well how when Harper was elected the people of Canada were on the edges of their seats. You are acting the fool claiming that leadership races get people outside the party excited. Give me a break. Edited April 3, 2012 by punked Quote
Evening Star Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 I also think that list is pretty weak, even compared to Ignatieff/Rae/Dion/Kennedy. Quote

Now speak to the list posted here for the Liberals please. Like I said before SmallC changed the subject, a pretty weak list there. Quote
cybercoma Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 At a caucus meeting tomorrow, open to the media, Bob Rae will make a special announcement. He's calling for Stephen Harper to step down over his blatant lies to the Canadian public about the F-35s. Quote

I think people would have voted for Topp (he created Layton's campaign afterall), Cullen, or Nash as well. I just think Mulcair is a stronger leader and would need less time to grow into the position, while the others would need time to develop. Quote
capricorn Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 He's calling for Stephen Harper to step down over his blatant lies to the Canadian public about the F-35s. I can almost promise you that they wouldn't have. Punked wants me to talk about this list. I'm not sure why I should. We don't know the real list yet. Add: How can Harper have been lying about something when he, according to the AG report, didn't know anything more than Bob Rae? Quote
cybercoma Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 He isn't waiting for tomorrow, he said so on Power and Politics today. Thanks. I didn't notice. I was tied to a desk from 8am-10pm (AST) today. Quote

Keepitsimple Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 He's calling for Stephen Harper to step down over his blatant lies to the Canadian public about the F-35s. He'll be doing anything he can to get some airtime - and looking more desperate all the while. Now that the NDP have a leader, Liberals are truly #3 and nobody will be paying attention to them. It happened as quickly as you can say "Bob's your Uncle". Quote Back to Basics
