William Ashley Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 (edited) So I heard about day earlier today and now Chuck Strahl. I don't know to much about Mr. Strahl. So I can't comment much on it except that This seems to be the 4th high profile person to leave a cabinet position in the last couple months - that was relatively long time senior front bench sort. Of course the size of cabinet was increased dramatically over the last 5 years so if 1 in 5 members is a member of cabinet the "effect" is reduced a little as opposed to 1 in 10 members. If I'm not mistaken he was - or still is - battling cancer? Edited March 12, 2011 by betsy Quote

nicky10013 Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 If he is, I wish him well. Certainly. Apparently he was diagnosed with terminal inoperable lung cancer in 2005. If he's hung on this long, all I have to say is good for him. Now, I'm completely in the dark as to any activities he might be doing, but his would be a great story to get out there and fundraise for the CCS. He could do some real good, if it isn't his health of course that is keeping him from his schedule. Quote
Wilber Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 Too bad. Used to be my MP until they split Abbotsford and Chilliwack. Good man. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
betsy Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 If he's still battling cancer, perhaps it's for the best that he leaves federal politics....what with an election looming, as I understand it's a very stressful, not to say taxing event with all the campaigning to do. I wish him well. Quote

I wish him well. Sounds more like death is at his doorstep. Surviving almost six (6) years from diagnosis is rare. I have to give him a lot of credit. That is a tremendous dedication to public service. I was amazed he didn't step down right away. He was one of the voices of reason that saw what a liability Stockwell Day would be, but he screwed his own leadership ambitions by refusing to keep quiet will Day made a spectacle of the Alliance.
