WIP Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 as Rand Paul claimed? Well, I guess one must back those who pay him to speak. Our nation is becoming totally dependent on oil, so it's going to be "uncanadian" also....especially now that tar sands oil is destroying manufacturing and tourism by driving up the Cdn Dollar. Quote Anybody who believers exponential growth can go on forever in a finite world is either a madman or an economist. -- Kenneth Boulding, 1973
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Yes, but it's fine for Canadians to do it. What is the context of this question? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

News flash, our nation is already totally dependent on oil. The entire world is totally dependent on oil. A strong canadian dollar has lots of positive effects on our economy too. I for one particularly like the increased trade balances. Quote
eyeball Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 News flash, our nation is already totally dependent on oil. The entire world is totally dependent on oil. Given it's a seller's market for oil we should be getting more for it and out of it. For starters we should only be exporting refined products so that Canadians benefit from the employment that processing oil would create. A strong canadian dollar has lots of positive effects on our economy too. I for one particularly like the increased trade balances. A strong dollar doesn't help what I do for a living. Allowing the export of raw unprocessed natural resources also does little to develop Canada's economic opportunities which, if they were developed, would go a long way towards ameliorating my situation. Our country is apparently totally dependent on economic growth. We should be leaving our resources in the ground, on the stump and in the ocean etc etc until we can figure out ways to get a lot more bang for the buck they bring not to mention ensuring that bang finds it way into far more Canadian hands. Quote I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, oh fanatical criminal
