In a landmark decision striking down the core of the controversial law, Ontario Superior Court Judge Susan Himel said that the law forces women to operate their business furtively in an atmosphere of constant secrecy and danger.
Mr. Young said that the judge refused to suspend the effect of her decision while the government moves to fill the legislative gap.

“It takes effect right now,” he told reporters at Toronto's downtown courthouse.

I think in the end of it makes everyone more safe, that can only be a good thing. The sex trade will always be dangerous to a degree, but it's never going away. THe only way to deal with it is to make sure it's legitimate with safety measures.

Hardly novel. Prostitutes have been taxed in the past. Why not again?

revenue canada could always tax them but because there was no way to establish their income or where they attained it they paid nothing...

I'm not sure how this is going to make anyone safe just yet. Just because something is legal doesn't make it safe. You will still have women prostituting themselves for the same reason (a drug habit) and the same creeps using them. The devil will be in the details.

I'm going to answer this on the other thread.

Presumably if we move to legalized bawdy houses, we will have the same business structures; invoices, receipts, logbooks, etc. Heck, the CCRA taxes tips and other gratuities, and waitresses and the like are obligated to report them, and if you don't, you're at risk of being assessed at what is viewed as the mean amount of tips based upon hours worked, etc.

In other words, there's no type of income that can't be taxed.
