Israeli raid on Gaza aid flotilla broke law - UN probe

Israel's military broke international laws during a raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, a UN Human Rights Council investigation says.

Its report said the action by commandos, which left nine dead, was "disproportionate" and "betrayed an unacceptable level of brutality".

It said there was clear evidence to support prosecutions against Israel for "wilful killing".

In a 56-page report, the UN panel of three international lawyers said: "There is clear evidence to support prosecutions of the following crimes within the terms of article 147 of the Fourth Geneva Convention: wilful killing; torture or inhuman treatment; wilfully causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health".

The Convention is an international treaty governing the protection of civilians in times of war.

The UN fact-finding mission also said the Israeli blockade of the Palestinian territory was "unlawful" because of a humanitarian crisis there.

BBC

Israel, of course, gave their typical response to investigations that find Israel to have broken international law.

queue the hasbara-bots apologizing for yet another israeli action that has broken international law.

Such a lovely paragone of human rights the UNHRC is, afterall. Israel farts and there's a resolution against it. Genocide in Darfur? Where's that? Are there Jews involved? No??? Yawn.

in your haste to justify israel by comparing its atrocities to a place like sudan and subsequently, lowering the bar for israel, you forgot to check UNHRC's role in darfur. there is plenty of attention that the UN has given and continues to give to that region.

here is the report from UNHRC.

oh and thanks for the irrelevant link to the civil war.

Irrelevant to you and your Hamas-bot mind. Blockades work. Guess what would happen to a particular ship that tried to sell the South guns or export King Cotton?

What else to expect from that anti semetic group which lives to demonize Israel. I'll wait for Israel's own internal report.

The ITIC has a report on a new book about the Mavi Marmara written by a Turkish journalist who was on board the vessel and smuggled out pictures.

His account verifies the IDF's contentions and disagrees with the IHH version of events.

They brought the wrong group to make the case. It isn't a human rights issue but a maritime law question.

Torture? Lauaghable. Willful killing? Absolutely, you willfully kill someone endangering your life.

It is comforting that the terrorist lkobby has the UNHRC in their back pocket.

your superficial comparison between the civil war incident and the situation in gaza is an indication of how it's impossible to discuss reality with you. there are so many dissimilarities between the two that i don't even know where to begin. i will give you one of many differences between the two and then leave it at that. because i'm not going to have a stupid discussion with you.

one obvious difference is that the flotilla ships were searched at the port in cyprus prior to leaving towards gaza and were given a complete check. even after the seizure of the ships, israel was not able to find anything illegal on the ships except for some butter knives.

just so you know, i will not be responding to any more stupid comparisons like that.

Sorry bud...to me, Jews are neither immoral nor unjust.

Inbreeding = stupidity...sorry..but they are a weak bunch overly dependent on organizational tribal conspiracy - coupled with a protectorate doctrine base on God - which most now in Israel ignore and embrace materialism and unbridled secularism...I will never get over the moment..that a young Israeli said to me "I do not believe in God but I do believe in the state of Israel" - I would say no covenant..no valid devine contract - Time for the Jews to stand on their own and fend for themselves....besides..my Ukrainian grandmothers family was starved to death by Stalin...16 million...and I still don't have a socialist haven called a "homeland" - where is my piece of the altruistic pie?

perhaps in your absolute and extreme world, the jews are moral and just, while palestinians are immoral and unjust.

you need to get over the team cheering and focus on the actions of the individual(s) and not their background and ethnicity.

The apologist says that Jews are neither immoral or unjust - to para phrase..so was the rich Jewish lady that bought Hitler his first fancy ego boosting desk immoral or unjust? Were the Jews that denouced their brothers and sisters by assisting and facilitating the socialist cause in Germany unjust...were the Jews that put a polcy forth to the Israeli government that tacitly stated - For every Jew a Palistinian murders we in retribution kill 20 of them....was that moral and principled?

There is no group on earth that is moral and just - ALL have fallen short of being of good character and of good moral and just behaviour.. Any one who believes that those who put forth policies that create the mind numbing and soul destroying force called political correctness are NOT just or moral people - they are controling monsters...those that can not control themselves seek to control others...Bridle the mouth and you control the whole beast..perhaps Israel and it's supporters should simply shut up and let actions speak louder than bragging combined with a lust to dominate.

Meh...I'm not the one starting the endless 'I hate Israel threads' like naiomi. Plus, the use of terms like 'hasbara-bots' (you did that...right off the bat) pretty much sets what 'team' you're on, extreme one.

:P

i know naomi and i have seen a lot of her threads. she has never written an 'i hate israel' thread or anything that shows hate towards jews. so right there, unless you can show specific examples, we have proof that you are unable to decipher between criticism of israel's actions and hate.

critiquing and calling out unconditional supporters who will go to any length to support israel hasbara-bots does not mean i'm cheering for any team. teams are for those who are unable to voice their own personal critique and observation of the situation and instead need to rely on narratives.

The last thing I'll be doing is taking orders from Jew-baiters like yourself and/or naiomi.
