GostHacked Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 I mean if you are going to fight a war on terror, and implement a whole whack of new screening protocols (like body scanners) and you find that these two people were carrying suspicious items, what would you do? That's right, you give them the once over and let them go on their way. Then you tell the Dutch authorities that they are suspicious. Well, if they were suspicious why let them board in the first place? Just seems like a fail to me. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11134521 Security staff found one mobile phone taped to a bottle of Pepto-Bismol, three other mobile phones taped together and several watches, also taped together. A box-cutter and three large knives were also found, ABC said. Not sure if this was his carry-on or not. But the man was cleared for travel, as no explosives were found, the US network said, quoting officials."The items were not deemed to be dangerous in and of themselves and, as we share information with our international partners, Dutch authorities were notified of the suspicious items," the US Department of Homeland Security said in a statement. I guess if the box cutter is going out of country, it's not a problem. Suspicious but not suspicious enough to stop them from boarding in the first place. NBC News reported that US concern about the latest incident was "low", but the authorities wanted to make sure this was not an attempt to test airline security prior to a future attack. It was a test. It's always a test. Every passenger is a test. Quote
Shady Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 The screeners in America are probably scared to be labelled as Islamophobic, and face possible discrimination lawsuits. This type of environment can be directly attributed to you, and people like you. Quote

GostHacked Posted September 1, 2010 Author Report Posted September 1, 2010 http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2010/09/01/netherlands-yemeni-arrest-conspiracy-terrorism.html Two men arrested in the Netherlands over concerns they were conducting a test run for a terrorist attack on an airline have been freed without charges.A statement posted Wednesday on the website of the Dutch national prosecutor's office stated that due to a lack of evidence "there is no reason to hold the men any longer." At the request of U.S. officials, Dutch security arrested Ahmed Mohamed Nasser al Soofi and Hezam al Murisi, both of Yemeni descent, at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on Monday morning after they disembarked a United Airlines flight from Chicago. However, just a day later, U.S. officials were casting doubt about whether the men were involved in a conspiracy. They said the two, both bound for Yemen, apparently did not know each other. Authorities had earlier found a cellphone taped to a Pepto-Bismol bottle, multiple cellphones and watches taped together, and a knife and box cutter in his checked baggage. The items do not violate U.S. security rules and are "not deemed to be dangerous in and of themselves," according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.Read more: http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2010/09/01/netherlands-yemeni-arrest-conspiracy-terrorism.html#ixzz0yJ0ePaOn So a box cutter is no longer banned? I mean you can put it in checked baggage but not carry on? Fail. Quote
gradkiss Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 This battle with terrorism is going along probably just like the terrorists expected. The uS has historically reacted as they do, exampled by 911.There has since been a significant loss of rights in the uS.There is also some indication of what we can expect from a Government that uses money to justify everything it does.Long ago...someone with vision in Washington could have made the necessary adjustments to avoid the current economic crisis, by just stopping the use of a currency and moving to a debit card approach that satisfied the need for both an audit and invoice.Every step the uS has chosen, has been one that in return will require not only maintenance but a hefty amount of money as support. You can witness the uS politically show what all the fuss has been with incumbents and corporations, when you realize that the corporations contribute to a political party and the consumer has to face a higher price.I, and others today see just how just it is to fine or incarcerate someone for a crime and never prevent the crime. The cost of this judicial system lies with the ones that labor here in the uS.Not very wise!Yes...our eyes are open...and look how temping it is for members of Congress to increase our tax and cut our benefits when they themselves are so comfortable. Irregardless of what the intentions of the terrorists were...look at what is happening in the uS. I can personally report... law enforcement here in the uS is a total failure.A word to the wise...remedy and resolve is more important as what can be realized in the future than creating resentment and getting revenge.Everyone have a good day there in Canada! There is not much to learn as example here in the uS, other than what not to do. wyly Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2010/09/01/netherlands-yemeni-arrest-conspiracy-terrorism.html Fail So a box cutter is no longer banned? I mean you can put it in checked baggage but not carry on? Fail. so explain how someone is going to get a knife out of checked luggage? mid flight they're going to get out of the plane and open the cargo bays??? GostHacked Posted September 4, 2010 Author Report Posted September 4, 2010 so explain how someone is going to get a knife out of checked luggage? mid flight they're going to get out of the plane and open the cargo bays??? You got a point trust me. But I thought this was banned even for checked luggage? I guess all the overreactions just after 911 and the wide ban of items was not needed. There is still a lot of stuff you can't bring on carry on, even here in Canada. But hey, both guys were let go and no charges laid. Atta also had his bags checked, and was let go. But I guess you can say it's because of him we have these limits now. I just hope we don't here about these two again anytime soon. Quote
