Shady Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 Big news from Washington today. WASHINGTON — The House ethics committee laid out 13 charges of House rules violations against Representative Charles B. Rangel on Thursday, and began the process for a public trial on the charges.... The charges against Mr. Rangel, a Democrat from Harlem, include multiple breaches of the House ban on accepting gifts of more than $50 and of the requirement that members act at all times in a way that reflects creditably on the House. They accuse Mr. Rangel of using a rent-stabilized apartment for his campaign, and inaccurately signing a lease asserting that the apartment was for his son, Steven, to live in. The committee also suggested the developer, The Olnick Organization, showed favoritism toward Mr. Rangel even as it was evicting other tenants. ... The charges involve four areas: Mr. Rangel’s solicitation of contributions to a school to be named in his honor at City College of New York; his errors and omissions on his House financial disclosure forms; his acceptance of rent-stabilized apartments in Harlem, including the one for his campaign office; and his failure to report and pay taxes on rental income on a beach villa he owns in the Dominican Republic. The New York Times Looks like his trial will take place at the beginning of the campaign season. Most people figured he'd strike a deal to prevent this from happening. Apparently he wasn't willing to do so. It's an early Christmas present for Republicans. Thanks Charlie!!! I can already see the commercials being cut with the following footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEsEdJRtLRc&feature=related Quote

dre Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 No big suprise here, and this is really just the tip of the iceberg. If the Democrat and Republican crime families were REALLY brought to justice there would be hundreds of thousands of violations, not 13. Quote I question things because I am human. Shady Posted August 1, 2010 Author Report Posted August 1, 2010 Another Democrat facing trial for ethics violations! Waters chooses ethics trialRep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) has chosen to go through an ethics trial, like the one lined up for New York Rep. Charles Rangel, rather than accepting charges made by an ethics subcommittee, a source familiar with the process tells POLITICO. The back-to-back trials of two black lawmakers represent an unprecedented use of an ethics adjudication system that has rarely been used by House members accused of breaking ethics rules. Waters's case revolves around allegations that she improperly intervened with federal regulators to help a bank that her husband owned stock in and on whose board he once served. Politico Culture of corruption! Quote
punked Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 (edited) Bill Kristol says "Republicans should just shut up about Rangel's Trial....." says Republicans face their own ethics problems with John Ensign and David Vitter and only an idiot wouldn't just let this thing play out, instead of jumping on every media story about it. BTW it is interesting to know Rangel would never been brought to trail if Democrats didn't "create this new independent office to investigate these cases and it is, in fact, doing its job." Or so says Washington Post's Ceci Connolly. Seems like the conservative commentators are saying the Democrats did a good job on this whole Rangle thing so far. Hmmmmm. Shady Posted August 13, 2010 Author Report Posted August 13, 2010 You'd think with so many ethics violations, Rangel would show a little humility. Nope. Looks like the Dems threw him a big birthday bash! Livin it up, while millions of people continue to struggle to find jobs. Quote
Shady Posted August 30, 2010 Author Report Posted August 30, 2010 Looks like Dems have more violations. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson violated rules, steered scholarships to relativesLongtime Dallas congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson has awarded thousands of dollars in college scholarships to four relatives and a top aide's two children since 2005, using foundation funds set aside for black lawmakers' causes. Eddie Bernice Johnson The recipients were ineligible under anti-nepotism rules of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, which provided the money. And all of the awards violated a foundation requirement that scholarship winners live or study in a caucus member's district. Link Quote
