capricorn Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 Ther are'nt the tax fighters they make themselves out to be because Hudak was all for ther HST,along with his complicit Harrisite friend in Ottawa,Mr.Flaharty... Jack, we just can't win, can we. McGuinty has said that strong medicine is required to fix what's wrong with Ontario. I suppose it boils down to a choice between McGuinty's cod liver oil or Hudak's Buckleys mixture. One sends you to the crapper and the other makes you wretch. We're very near the Anybody but McGuinty point. I would not venture a guess whether things would improve if the PCs make it. I've been wrong too many times in all the years of my voting life. capricorn Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 Several hundred eco tax protesters attended a demo at McGuinty's office in Ottawa. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEP5_IBI7j8 Kudos to the organizers and those who attended. Topaz Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 I provided you links to show the PCs never brought in an eco tax. Now it's your turn. Please provide a site or sites to back up your position that the PCs brought in an eco tax a la McGuinty. You're right they didn't, but they had the idea too, but they were into so much trouble with Ontarian they didn't darn to make it law. I wish I could find the article that said so but on the net, here today, gone tomorrow. Quote

capricorn Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 McGuinty has bowed to the pressure of the taxpayers and shelved the eco tax brought in on July 1st. The Ontario government is pulling the plug on its controversial program that slaps eco fees on thousands of household products, after a growing backlash from retailers and consumer groups.Environment Minister John Gerretsen will announce on Tuesday that the government plans to eliminate the new fees charged on aerosols, cleaning products and thousands of other potentially toxic items, according to government sources. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ontario-shelves-eco-fees-after-fierce-backlash/article1645400/ Earlier today, Canadian Tire had announced it would not collect the eco tax from its customers because of the confusion surrounding the program. capricorn Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 The McGuinty government has issued a news release on canning the present eco tax. http://www.news.ontario.ca/ene/en/2010/07/province-takes-action-on-eco-fees.html The McGuinty government has listened to consumers concerns about eco fees. As a result, it will work with businesses and Stewardship Ontario over the next 90 days to develop a new system that works for consumers and works to protect our landfills and waterways from dangerous materials. GostHacked Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Much of this seemed to be due to how Canadian Tire said the eco tax was too confusing regarding what products are taxed and how much. Can we abolish the HST now? I will now call it the Hidden Sales Tax .. Quote

capricorn Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Much of this seemed to be due to how Canadian Tire said the eco tax was too confusing regarding what products are taxed and how much. Consumers were pissed off at Canadian Tire for charging a higher eco tax than other retailers, generating negative press for their stores. Canadian Tire went on the offensive, criticizing the way the eco tax was brought in and the confusion it caused among retailers. Add this to the backlash from consumers and voila, McGuinty shelved the tax...for now. It will cost taxpayers $5M over the next 3 months for McGuinty and company to craft a way to get back into our pockets. They say the $5M is for recycling but I don't believe it. This is money for Stewardship Ontario to camouflage the tax somewhere else. Environment Minister John Gerretsen said although the fees will be removed from products, the government will pay up to $5 million over the next three months to keep the recycling program going. http://ottawa.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20100720/OTT_ECO_100720/20100720/?hub=OttawaHome Can we abolish the HST now? Borg Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 Eco tax? Too funny You guys voted him in and actually believed his lies - and now some have the nerve to complain? Not that it matters - more taxes coming People get the government they deserve Borg Quote
Molly Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 (edited) Eco tax? Too funny You guys voted him in and actually believed his lies - and now some have the nerve to complain? Not that it matters - more taxes coming People get the government they deserve Borg You realize, of course, that this government was elected by default... the least destructive of a set of odious non-options. We didn't so much believe McGuinty as percieve him as entirely ineffectual. It was the other guys that we believed. charter.rights Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Andrea Horwath will NOT be leading this province.... Sadly,Timbit Hudak is the only other option... We are seriously eff'd in this province... McGuinty has made some good political moves lately and will likely see another majority. Think about it. He repealed the eoc-fee. He opened the government to the OPP investigation (transparency). He hammered E-health. He fought for the HST - RST exemption for First Nations AGAINST the federal Conservatives who would not budge. He has done much more and is setting himself up as a hero. Tim Hudak admits he liked and takes advice from Mike Harris. He has a core Conservative following but centrists won't trust that he won't follow in Harris' footsteps. He hasn't had much to say about anything, really. Andrea Horvath is stuck in the Bob Rae NDP legacy. No hope there either. So I would predict another majority for McGuinty. He isn't so much teflon as he is the only option. The rest suck. Once again I am struck by your lack of perspective. I won't say logic, since you have already defined logic as a delusion. Still, your entire post is predicated on the assumption that yours is a majority view! Harris won the two largest majorities in our history. There is still much debate as to whether Ontarioans turned from Ernie Eves because they were tired of a Mike Harris style party or if they simply didn't have much faith in Ernie Eves. Citing how he pleased First Nations peoples only means he made one group happy. The group is not very large and is very spread out. What's more, how many votes could come from that demographic? Since then McGuinty has enjoyed a Chretien-like advantage of his opposition having weak leaders. John Tory flamed out magnificently! Still, he has been slowly pissing more and more people off. With moves like the changes to our electricity bills with "smart" meters, his attempt to sneak in the 'Eco-fee' even though forced to backtrack and innumerable tax grabs under names like 'user fee', McGuinty has been becoming more and more expensive for some citizens to want to have around! If you want to state that YOU like McGuinty that would be a valid view but when you flat out make the claim that that McGuinty will achieve another majority then that could only occur if a large majority of voters share your view. If you expect people to treat your premise as valid you certainly could do a better job of backing it up! How about citing some polls that show Ontarioans overwhelmingly LOVE McGuinty and promise to vote for him? capricorn Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 McGuinty has made some good political moves lately and will likely see another majority. This is the funniest line I've read on MLW for some time. He has done much more and is setting himself up as a hero. I prefer to think he's setting himself up to become Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. Tim Hudak admits he liked and takes advice from Mike Harris. And how different is that from Layton seeking advice from Broadbent...or Ignatieff seeking advice from Chretien? And yes, I think at times those men have accepted said advice. He has a core Conservative following but centrists won't trust that he won't follow in Harris' footsteps. He hasn't had much to say about anything, really. You're clearly anti-Conservative. I bet you don't bother listening to him, or research the net on anything he has said or stands for. I'm presently a Conservative supporter, but I guarantee when Layton, Ignatieff, McGuinty or Horvath speak, I'm all ears and eyes. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election.
