Tories are feeling the heat and today Baird stood up and read from a website that a Liberal member had lobbied and wasn't registered. Of course, the member is Derek Lee, the one giving the Tories the heat on the detainees and the documents. Today, I thought the Tories couldn't get any lower when they are asked a question and of course never answer BUT today Baird took it one step lower. This after Tom Clark, had asked Jason Kenny about the way Question Period is, never answering questions, always personal attacks etc. His response was ...its the medias fault members act that way before the camera!!!! Please, you are there to do a job and getting big bucks and huge pensions and all we, the audience, get to see and hear is personal attacks and no answers. You know what, I don't think Mulroney would allow his members to show so much disrespect for Parliament or for the voters! IF Jaffer is guilty so are they!! http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/canada/breakingnews/tories-accuse-liberal-mp-of-illegal-lobbying-for-foreign-companies-92999774.html

I read your link, Topaz. Once again, you confuse me! The article clearly states that the website of the law firm described Derek Lee as doing all the functions of a lobbyist! Wouldn't it be only common sense to assume Lee is in fact a lobbyist?

Now afterwards, Lee denied it and the law firm pulled the information from their website but what else would you expect?

Seems to me that the Tories acted in good faith! ANYBODY would have thought Lee a lobbyist after reading the website of the law firm where he had worked!

Or do you think that everyone should have been psychic and known from the start that it was a mistake?

So - it's only low when the conservatives make charges - now that is low LOL

If Derek Lee was not in fact, lobbying, then his company obviously lied, but why would they do that. I bet the Star won't do any

'investigative reporting' on this one.

Why would he do that? I don't understand. Surely nobody cares about what Liberals do, only what tories do. Doesn't he know that!?

Well, I used to watch question period before there were cameras. It was certainly a different show. But then the Liberals started acting up and insulting everyone, and that dragged the whole tone of the place down. It's unfortunate, but as long as people keep sending Liberals to Ottawa I'm afraid you can't expect maturity or dignity in the Commons. Hint: common, look it up.

Lets not forget NDP'er pat martin, during the questioning of jaffer ,martin was a total jerk and made of mockery out of the process, time to take away the protection these people have to be able to say what they want on the inside that would have them in court if they said it outside. Edited by PIK

Angus, what are you talking about? Most of the time the first person to throw a personal attacks is usually the PM himself and then, all the members (the Tories) who get up to answer a questions feels free to throw the personal attacks because the leader did it and its ok!

Most Canadians feel the same way about QP and so Tory Michael Chong has come up with a private Bill to reform QP and I think most Canadians would go for it but would the members of Parliament go for it? Some of his ideas are, givng the backbenchers a chance to ask or answer questions, make Wednesday question to the PM only, all questions HAVE have answered and NO personal attacks, and the Speaker having more power over QP etc. http://news.guelphmercury.com/News/article/629036

You only think I'm extreme right wing because you're so far out past the fringes of the far Left you need a telescope to see the centre.

And, well, to put it gently, because you need an instruction guide and two assistants to tie your shoes.

Oh I'm sorry. I keep forgetting you children were still screaming because of your full diapers when Chretien was in power, not to mention when Mulroney and Trudeau were in power.

You people have a habit of being "shocked" and "appaled" by things which have been routine and constant occurances for half a century.

Sorry. It's not that I'm smarter than you - although all the evidence certainly points to that as a correlating factor - it's that I've been following parliament quite a long while. I not only used to watch it from the galleries I used to have Hansard delivered to me on a daily basis. Not that most of you have even heard of Hansard, of course.

Let stop fighting I get it. The Liberals have lobbiest in their party MP ranks and so do the Tories so lets vote for the only party who doesn't. The NDP.

How could that work? We're running out of rich corporations that they can bleed to death!

The band Ten Years After sang it way back in the late 60's: "Tax the Rich! Feed the Poor! Till there are no rich no more!"

The govt might return a few volleys with some zingers, but it's ALWAYS the Liberals who start the crazy personal attacks.

"Mr. Speaker, why does this government hate women?"

"Mr. Speaker, why does this government think all aboriginals should die?"

And another Tory wanting to tear apart our hard-won constitutional arrangements. There's a damned good reason MPs are inviolate inside the House. In fact, it's a protection in most democracies around the world. Maybe, someday, when you're not salivating over the next set of Tory talking points, you might want to review, oh, I dunno, the Personal Rule, the Glorious Revolution and the Bill of Rights 1689.
