Born Free
What an opposition party says it would do if in government, or at least what it demands of government, will often change the moment they become a government (witness Chretien's GST flip-flop). What flip-flop was that?
M.Dancer
What flip-flop was that? Where to begin? Scrapping and retooling the GST? Renegotiating the FTA?
Born Free
Where to begin? Scrapping and retooling the GST? Renegotiating the FTA? I knew you'd say that. The misconceptions continue about what the Liberal platform was re the GST. The GST has indeed been retooled. Its called the HST.
M.Dancer
I knew you'd say that. The misconceptions continue about what the Liberal platform was re the GST. The GST has indeed been retooled. Its called the HST. Did Chrétien lie when he told Canadians during the 1993 election campaign that he would "kill" and "abolish" the tax? His ultimate solution was to continue efforts begun by the previous Conservative government to harmonize the GST with provincial taxes in order to create one blended rate. http://www.encyclopediecanadienne.ca/index.cfm?PgNm=TCE&Params=M1ARTM0011049
Born Free
http://www.encyclopediecanadienne.ca/index.cfm?PgNm=TCE&Params=M1ARTM0011049 ....he said he was quoted out of context because, he explains, "I was always very careful to say that we will have to replace it with other revenues. What can I say. You think he lied...some say he flip flopped. The Liberal platform said it would replace the GST. Go figure. I think that Chretien was a thug and a corrupt one to boot. That was then and this is now. I believe I'm being lied to by Harper, Mackay and Defense HQ. This isnt the first time and might not even be the last time. I say lets deal with this issue and turn over the documents to the authorities because I dont for one moment believe that doing so will compromise any security matters.
