ToadBrother Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 I think if Harper was smart, he would ask Le Blanc Lib MP. Why? Since father was the GG he knows about the job and he also ran for leadership for the Libs and I think he will again. I would think more Libs will back LeBlanc from Quebec and there's no skeletons in his closet and he could beat any Tory he ran against. I would like to see him the next leader of the Libs. I think they should ask Prince William, whose knowledge of constitutional matters probably outpaces all but legal scholars, and it would be a great practice run for the job he's gonna get. Quote

I do love the thought of all the baby-boomer neo-Canadiana nationalists spluttering in outrage at such an appointment! Apparently, according to his ex-wife, Prince Andrew was offered the position in the 1980s and the couple agreed to turn it down. She said that in retrospect it was a regrettable mistake to have said no. [c/e] Edited April 7, 2010 by g_bambino Quote
g_bambino Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 (edited) It seems Harper has made his recommendation for the next Lieutenant Governor of Alberta: Former peacekeeper will be Alberta's next lieutenant-governor This nomination by Harper of a military figure to a viceregal post helps to further cement my quickly forming belief that John de Chastelain will be the next governor general. He's Anglophone, from a storied family, a career military man, a diplomat, a peace-broker, well decorated, near the end of his working days, and has the almost royal sounding name of Alfred John Gardyne Drummond de Chastelain. He's like a reincarnated English version of Georges-Philéas Vanier! [+] Edited April 8, 2010 by g_bambino Quote

g_bambino Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 I don't think he can speak French though.... As a former Chief of the Defence Staff? I don't know, but it would be a shame if that was the case. Quote
Smallc Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 (edited) As a former Chief of the Defence Staff? I don't know, but it would be a shame if that was the case. That's what I had heard, but it was only a passing reference on one of the news channels. I would hope he can...though I'm not sure an old guy will be good for the position. . Scratch that, I think I was thinking of someone else. He probably can speak French. Edited April 8, 2010 by Smallc Quote
g_bambino Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 I'm not sure an old guy will be good for the position. True; following on Jean, he would be quite a let-down in the eye candy department! Maybe he can really work a kilt. Quote
Smallc Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 True; following on Jean, he would be quite a let-down in the eye candy department! Maybe he can really work a kilt. Maybe he'd simply always dress in military wear. I don't only mean that he wouldn't be eye candy though...he just wouldn't bring nearly as much excitement to the position. Quote
