msj Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 B_C is our resident anal retentive politically (american) correct dude. Take him either with humour or ignore him. If more of us ignored him then we wouldn't see references to him from time to time and then "poof" it's like he never existed at all.... Quote If a believer demands that I, as a non-believer, observe his taboos in the public domain, he is not asking for my respect but for my submission. And that is incompatible with a secular democracy. Ironic indeed....your post only perpetuates my legacy. It's far easier to ignore you....as you slink away often. Edited February 20, 2010 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

I could never slink away from a guy like you. But, yeah, I usually ignore you and others of your ilk.... wyly Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 my fav's in no particular order Usual Suspects Snatch Key Largo City of God Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels Quote “Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives.”- John Stuart Mill
bloodyminded Posted February 23, 2010 Author Report Posted February 23, 2010 I thought of some of these too. I once thought Casino was a good gangster movie but its violence was simply too graphic. Scorcese is the Sam Peckinpah of the modern era and he replaces true art with fake violence. I see no problem, none whatsoever, with graphic violence in film. But the movie that really struck me is Sexy Beast because of the character played by Ben Kingsley. He's generally quiet and cool, sarcastic, but there's a scene where Kingsley captures the terrifying psychopathy of two-bit criminals. I didn't think this movie was anything special, but it's true that Kingsley elevates it single-handedly. That scene you mention has remained with me...really amazing performance. fellowtraveller Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Add my vote for Sexy Beast, a fine, tense offering. It is extremely well directed by Jonathan Glazer. It is not so much that Kingsley himslef is scary, but the buildup to his arrival is so well done. Recall the scene where one of the expats drops the bombshell: "Don called, and he is coming here". The fear and loathing is palpable, without knowing anything at all about the guy you know these tough guys are scared witless by him. Add my vote too for The Usual Suspects, one of my favorite movies in any genre. Quote The government should do something.

I haven't got around to seeing that one, I'll make a point of doing so this week... another one I've heard good things about is In Bruges...
