Sir Bandelot Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 There are some people who don't want to know the truth, so they'll never "see" it, no matter how obvious it is; and by that, I mean they'll never admit it, even to themselves. If they don't admit it, if they pretend otherwise, then it's still they way they want it to be in their 'reality.' Yes indeed, and this breed of people are commonly known as "politicians". Quote
BubberMiley Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 However, she hasn't asked for any type of apology from him. I'm not sure David Letterman would agree that she only ever asks for apologies from public officals, not talk shows hosts, when she uses her kids to bolster her political career. Guest American Woman Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 (edited) Oh, and it looks as though Palin has been completely consistent. She single out Emanuel, who is a public official, but hasn't singled out private citizens. Stephen Colbert called Palin a f*****g retard last week, in what was a pretty funny dialogue. However, she hasn't asked for any type of apology from him. Hardly consistent. As has been pointed out already, she didn't hesitate to call Letterman on his satire in the past, so she has no problem with singling out private citizens. She's obviously just very select about who she calls on such things. This time, however, with Colbert, even she's not too stupid to realize she's painted herself into a corner with her defense of Rush. I'm sure parents of "retarded" children everywhere appreciate the fact that she's as much as popularized and legitimized the use of the term from anyone but a Democratic public official. But I do know that your compass is distorted here. Here's what you said to me: Sounds like you're the one who's not too bright. Sounds like you also pretends to knowledge about things you don't possess. Whatever the hell pretends to knowledge means. Sounds like you're the last one who should be criticizing anybody about their intelligence. You said this not because of some insult to you...but because of an insult to that Palin jackass. And yet, you think I owe you an apology because I point out that Palin is a fool, and because Rush Limbaugh is a bullying dink. (Mind you, I'm not asking for nor expecting an apology. It's just amusing that a direct insult towards me is a-ok...but heavens forfend someone should call out these public-figure knuckledraggers on their hypocrisy and petty-mindedness.) I think the David Letterman situation is a little different. Anybody who makes jokes about raping an underage girl should definitely apologize. Quote

I didn't direct any insults towards you. I just pointed out that you should be the last person calling anyone stupid. What exactly does "pretends to knowledge about things you don't possess" mean? Those who live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones. I'm not sure why you're so sensitive about it. Quote

Anybody who makes jokes about raping an underage girl should definitely apologize. I guess you owe Letterman an apology now because he never, ever said anything about rape. You can try explaining how his comment could have been interpreted as a comment about rape (which I encourage you to do, because I could really use a good laugh today), or you can admit you lied, or you can do what you usually do when you're trapped in a corner: declare yourself the winner of all debates or disappear entirely. What exactly does "pretends to knowledge about things you don't possess" mean? Those who live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones. I'm not sure why you're so sensitive about it. I'm not sensitive about it, I merely used it to illustrate the jaw-dropping promiscuity of your hypocrisy. And you don't even mean what you say here. Think logically. If I am "THE last person" who should call anyone stupid, then this means, by definition, that I am the MOST stupid. That's what the phrase means. Or is it some Limbaughian "satire" that we can only comprehend by subjecting ourselves to many hours of Shady's audio? And again, I don't care about the insult. I take it as a compliment coming from you. But while you don't think personal insults at another poster warrant an apology...you think an insult to the jackasses whom you admire warrants an apology. ( I still can hardly believe it.) (Oh....and "pretends to knowledge" is a perfectly ok phrase. I'm not sure why it confuses you.) Shady Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 But while you don't think personal insults at another poster warrant an apology I see, so it's ok for you to throw around insults, but when somebody else follows your lead, you get a case of the vapors. And you're calling out Sarah Palin for hypocrisy? Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Oh....and "pretends to knowledge" is a perfectly ok phrase. Sure it is. You keep telling yourself that, and maybe you'll believe it too. Quote
Shady Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 I guess you owe Letterman an apology now because he never, ever said anything about rape. Ok then, statutory rape. So jokes about underage children involving statutory rape is ok with you? That's pretty disturbing. Letterman should have been asked to apologize. Quote

BubberMiley Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 (edited) Ok then, statutory rape. So jokes about underage children involving statutory rape is ok with you? Uh, I think her knocked-up daughter is well over eighteen. But whatever. I think the worst of the lot was "Family Guy" this weekend, which made fun of her son. That's a Fox show, which is her employer now. Something tells me she won't resign in protest, though. Shady Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 Uh, I think her knocked-up daughter is well over eighteen. Uh, the daughter that was with Sarah Palin at Yankee stadium, in which Letterman made his joke, is 14 years old. Quote

It was a clumsy joke, but no, it wasn't aimed at that daughter. The reference to her being "knocked up" is the clue. Guest American Woman Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 Uh, the daughter that was with Sarah Palin at Yankee stadium, in which Letterman made his joke, is 14 years old. Uh, Letterman said he didn't realize which daughter was with Palin. He didn't use Willow's name, it was directed at Bristol, who is over 18 (unlike Chelsea Clinton, when Limbaugh made disgusting jokes about her). Evidently satire is only 'selectively' funny, too. Oh yeah...Limbaugh's "family dog" joke, aimed at a young teen girl. To his credit, he almost matched it by mocking Michael J. Fox's physical symptoms. All part of the "satire" that we "just don't get." Quote As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand. --Josh Billings

Did you want Sarah Palin to ask for an apology from Rush Limbaugh when she was working on the Wasilla city council? Ummmm. We just don't want her defending him now, because he's scum. But of course he's her friend, so when he says disgusting things, it's witty. Just like McCain, who made a disgusting joke about Chelsea, was her running mate. She had no problem latching on to his ticket, as she called for Emmanuel's resignation. She's a full blown hypocrite, just like her buddy Limbaugh. Yep, almost as scumy as David Letterman and his statutory rape joke. "Almost," eh? Your true colors are showing, as you keep insisting his joke wasn't about who he said it was. Here's the thing, though; unlike you and Palin, I've never defended either one's "satire." Furthermore, I don't use terms that I criticize others over. Quote

When Letterman made the joke, Sarah Palin was at Yankee Stadium, at a game with her 14 year old daughter. In which Letterman joked about Alex Rodriguez knocking her daughter up. You guys can spin all you want. How exactly was the joke aimed at the older daughter who was on the other side of the country? You guys are pathetic. Quote

In which Letterman joked about Alex Rodriguez knocking her daughter up. You guys can spin all you want. How exactly was the joke aimed at the older daughter who was on the other side of the country? I'll spell it out for you. By not knowing that Bristol wasn't in NYC, too. Letterman apologized, even as he said it was aimed at Bristol, not Willow. That's more than Limbaugh has done regarding his crude joke directed at Chelsea, as he criticized Letterman for 'going after Palin's children.' But keep defending Limbaugh, as you go after others. Maybe only a hypocrite could be so enamored with another hypocrite like Palin. You guys are pathetic. Speaking of pathetic, I notice the sound of silence regarding McCain's joke about Chelsea and Palin's being fine with being on his ticket, as she called for Emmanuel's resignation. Quote

You guys are pathetic. Because he didn't know which daughter was with Palin. And Bristol is the famous one of the two. (Without looking back through this thread, I personally cannot even now recall the other daughter's name.) Don't get me wrong: it's not a terrific joke by any means. It's a nothing of a joke. Catapulted into infamy only by outraged Palin admirers, and by Palin herself, who has become a media whore of the highest order. I'm not even set on defending Letterman, whom I don't watch and care nothing about. But the statutory rape remarks are, I believe, way off base. Michael Hardner Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Those were several years ago. Did you want Sarah Palin to ask for an apology from Rush Limbaugh when she was working on the Wasilla city council? She wouldn't dare ask Rush to do anything like that. In fact, she was apologizing FOR him on O'Reilly tonight. The Republicans have truly created a Frankenstein in Rush. He torpedoes those deigned to not have enough mouth froth to dare to run as Republican. I expect that they will have to terminate him with extreme prejudice, or just send the tabloids some nice photoshopped photos of him in a Motel 6 with a shaved chimp and a large mound of white powder. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner
