Guest American Woman Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Is that a request?I try to avoid haughty language out of consideration to others (though at times I fail at this). But you should hear me when I know no one is listening. Golly-gee-willakers! It's a question, which you haven't answered. So I'll ask again. Would you use the word "nigger?" And for the record, I'm not referring to "when no one is listening." Quote
Shady Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 (edited) Wow. Come on, Shady, for everyone's benefit including your own, make a commitment to stop using that term. No. You gotta admit that's kinda hypocritical of you to criticize Emanuel for using a term that seems to be at the forefront of your vernacular. No, it's not hypocritical. Please examine what I actually said. Exactly. Seems as if there's definitely some hypocrisy going on in this thread. No. Again, please examine what I actually said in reference to Emanuel. Your focus on my use of the term, only retards the discussion in this thread. And not only that, but I feel as though you've been quite niggardly in your openness and understanding of other people's views. Edited February 4, 2010 by Shady Quote
scorpio Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 (edited) And not only that, but I feel as though you've been quite niggardly in your openness and understanding of other people's views. So I guess you defend Rush Limbaugh using the "r" word four times on his show the other day? Should Palin demand an apology from him? Edited February 4, 2010 by scorpio Quote
Guest American Woman Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 So I guess you defend Rush Limbaugh using the "r" word four times on his show the other day? Should Palin demand an apology from him? And what about Coulter? But as long as the nation is obsessed with historic milestones, is no one going to remark on what a great country it is where a mentally retarded woman can become speaker of the house? link Quote
scorpio Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 (edited) And what about Coulter? Or Tucker Carlson ("Canada is American's retarded cousin") Or David Carney (Gov. Rick Perry's political advisor) Or even Ted Nugent (he is scheduled to play the national anthem at Sunday's Perry/Palin event. link Edited February 4, 2010 by scorpio Quote
Guest American Woman Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Or Tucker Carlson ("Canada is American's retarded cousin") Or David Carney (Gov. Rick Perry's political advisor) Or even Ted Nugent (he is scheduled to play the national anthem at Sunday's Perry/Palin event. link I was going to cite the "retarded cousins" example myself, but then realized it was when Palin still was gazing at Russia from her home, and likely wasn't aware of too much going on regarding Canada -- or anywhere else, for that matter. The Perry top adviser is a real example of hypocrisy, though, as she is criticizing him but not calling for Perry to fire him. Likely because she'll be campaigning for Perry this weekend. That Ted Nugent is opening for that event is just icing on the (hypocrisy) cake. Quote
Shady Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 So I guess you defend Rush Limbaugh using the "r" word four times on his show the other day? Should Palin demand an apology from him? It was in a discussion specifically related to the Rahm Emanuel story. It would be like complaining about people mentioning "Negro dialect" in conjunction with Harry Reid's stupid comment. I'm not sure what you people want Sarah Palin to do. Does she need to seek out anyone who's ever used the term retard from a year, two years, five years ago, and demand an apology? You people are purposely blurring the line between government representatives and private citizens. And how many times did people make jokes about George Bush being a retard? There's your hypocrisy American Woman. Quote
Guest American Woman Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 I'm not sure what you people want Sarah Palin to do. Well then let me it out for you, even though it should be as plain as the nose on your face. We want her to stop being a hypocrite. We want her to demand that Perry fire his advisor. We want her to refuse to have Ted Nugent play the National Anthem at her and Perry's campaign event. Does she need to seek out anyone who's ever used the term retard from a year, two years, five years ago, and demand an apology? She doesn't need to "seek" these people out any more than she had to "seek" Rahm Emanuel out. You people are purposely blurring the line between government representatives and private citizens. No, we're not. And how many times did people make jokes about George Bush being a retard? There's your hypocrisy American Woman. Where's the hypocrisy?? What are those people doing now that's hypocritical? Quote
Shady Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 We want her to stop being a hypocrite. She's not being a hypocrite, she's playing the game of politics. The same type of politics used against her and her family for the last 2 years. The same type of game President Obama plays on a daily basis. And I say it's about bloody time! You can't fault somebody for learning from the lessons of the past. I'm glad she finally has. Punch back, right in their face! Now, if you wanna talk about real hypocrisy, take a look at the different reactions Obama had to Trent Lott and Harry Reid. That's some damn fine hypocrisy Mr. President! But I think it's quite hypocritical of all of you, to demand Palin be consisent, without demanding it first from President Obama. Quote

BubberMiley Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 It's a question, which you haven't answered. So I'll ask again. Would you use the word "nigger?" And for the record, I'm not referring to "when no one is listening." No, I probably wouldn't because I try to be considerate. But I have been known to be less than considerate at times, so don't put it past me. I have a tendency to shrug at bad language myself, but I realize that others can be offended, so I try to curb it. But like I said, I'm not always successful. But I can understand Palin disliking the term and calling Emanuel on it. If she has put down others who seek considerate language in the past, calling them "politcally correct", et cetera, then yes she's a hypocrite. But I don't recall her saying anything like that. If she's only calling Emanuel out for political reasons, as the examples of equal transgressions by GOPers suggests, then she's a political opportunist. So what? The real hypocrite would be someone who expects a standard of behaviour from public officials (or at least public officials from parties he doesn't like) when he has no interest in following that standard himself. Shady Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 "We" do? Good question. Her and some of her leftwing friends. Who see the term fucking retards coming out of the office of the President of the United States as being on equal to a talkshow host, a blogger, and musician. Quote

BubberMiley Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 Well, to be fair, it's not as bad as Harry Reid calling the president a "retarded Negro". Nah, it would be about the same. jbg Posted February 5, 2010 Author Report Posted February 5, 2010 If she's only calling Emanuel out for political reasons, as the examples of equal transgressions by GOPers suggests, then she's a political opportunist. So what? The real hypocrite would be someone who expects a standard of behaviour from public officials (or at least public officials from parties he doesn't like) when he has no interest in following that standard himself. One of the reasons I call myself a leftist is that at least the Democrats don't demand a higher level of morality from the people and their elected leaders than is humanly possible. Come on, how many televangelists stuff money in their pockets? How often does the Right accuse the Left of "political correctness"? If you're going to talk the talk you have to walk the walk. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).
BubberMiley Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 Wouldn't "the right's" tolerance of these televangelists, etc., indicate they too don't demand inhuman standards of their officials? I don't think consideration is a right/left issue. I have met respectful people from across the political spectrum. It's true that it's hypocritical to make a big fuss over, say, inconsiderate words Jeremiah Wright once said and then decrying "political correctness" when your political opponents make a big fuss over something your guy said. But, as this example shows, people on both sides of the spectrum are fussbudgets when they hear words they don't like. But personally, I think it's all just language. I get more upset by real issues, like the disappearing middle class and war profiteering and drug prohibition. Guest American Woman Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 (edited) No, I probably wouldn't because I try to be considerate. But I have been known to be less than considerate at times, so don't put it past me. I have a tendency to shrug at bad language myself, but I realize that others can be offended, so I try to curb it. But like I said, I'm not always successful. Just for the record, you've been successful at not saying "nigger" on this forum, but you haven't been successful at not saying "retarded." I think there's a reason for that, and I think the reason is one is in a different category than the other. But I can understand Palin disliking the term and calling Emanuel on it. If she has put down others who seek considerate language in the past, calling them "politcally correct", et cetera, then yes she's a hypocrite. But I don't recall her saying anything like that. "Calling him on it" and calling for Obama to fire him or for him to resign if Obama doesn't are two very different things. If she's truly offended by the term, then she should be offended by it no matter who says it. The fact that she's called Perry's top adviser on it but isn't calling for Perry to fire him -- as she's campaigning with him this weekend -- is hypocritical. That Ted Nugent -- who has used the word himself -- is singing the National Anthem for them at their event this weekend is hypocritical. She should be strongly objecting to that. If she's only calling Emanuel out for political reasons, as the examples of equal transgressions by GOPers suggests, then she's a political opportunist. So what? Can you show me an "equal transgression" by a GOP'er? As for "so what," it makes her a hypocrite, no matter what the reason, and it makes her look foolish. This is especially true because she claims to be offended by the term because of her Down's son. If she is using her Down's son as a reason for "political opportunity," then I think even less of her than I did before, and I doubt I'm the only one. The real hypocrite would be someone who expects a standard of behaviour from public officials (or at least public officials from parties he doesn't like) when he has no interest in following that standard himself. Wrong. A real hypocrite is someone who expects a standard of behavior from parties he doesn't like but doesn't hold the party he likes to the same standard.
