August1991 Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 We are about to embark on an election, and PM PM will go for a Normandy (Norway?) ceremony - and then he'll get a photo op, G7/8 thingee. Harper has every right to remind everyone that a previous Canada defended western values when Churchill did, and two years before the Americans. Small towns across Canada have monuments to those who died. IOW, we Canadians have no lesson to take from Americans about how to defend a civilized world. Our monuments say 1939-1945. Their monuments say 1941-1945. Big picture? Whither Canada? Are we on the right side any more? What happened? Fundamentally, where does Canada's moral compass now point? Quote
playfullfellow Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 Fundamentally, where does Canada's moral compass now point? The needle of the compass is spinning out of control with no apparent direction it wants to take. Just one example is that we have freaky pedophiles claiming in court that the child porn and disgusting literature they have is an art form. WTF gives with that? If this keeps up, the only direction the moral compass will point is straight into the crapper! Quote
August1991 Posted May 24, 2004 Author Report Posted May 24, 2004 Normandy. G8. Are you posters such ignorant teenagers not to see what the next photo-op is? Well, you'll get the deal, eventually. But do you believe potential voters won't? You underestimate them. Should Harper say anything about Dieppe when Martin stands at Juno? We Canadians once stood for something. (René Lévesque went abroad in a US uniform to tell the truth!) Let's make this plain: PM PM is about to show up at Normandy, and then a G8. He believes that potential voters are NOT Internet posters. Can you posters understand my sarcasm, cynicism? Moi, j'y crois. Sincèrement. Autrement dit, "Pourquoi ces gars sont morts?" [i have walked around the grounds of Dieppe, Juno, Beaumont-Hamel, Nettuno and Dachau. Do I understand perfectly? Probably not.] I wish all Canadians have the freedom to travel and form their own opinion. Canada matters. In ways Canadians have not, I hope, forgotten. Quote

WTF gives with that? If this keeps up, the only direction the moral compass will point is straight into the crapper! I don't know about that. People say a lot of things. At least these types are out in the open now. Fifty years ago, people didn't talk about pedophelia, and the criminals would go on attacking victims. It's hard to measure whether morality has changed. It certainly seems so, but there's no objective barometer of such things. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
Argus Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 Big picture? Whither Canada? Are we on the right side any more? What happened?Fundamentally, where does Canada's moral compass now point? On the right side of what? American foreign policy is often flawed and short sighted, but is it any worse than the French? And are American morals, however problematic at times, not vastly better than the Chinese or North Koreans or Syrians? As for Canada, our moral compass no longer points true north. The lodestone which draws it is gold. We'll hug any dictator, fawn over him, defend him, protect him, and keep our criticism, if any, muted, if there's a little money to be made. We don't care how many people you butcher. Wanna buy our wheat? Or better yet, a nuclear reactor? We trust you. Really we do!
