jdobbin
http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index....w_post&f=29 It could be a dark 125th anniversary for North America's biggest French-language broadsheet newspaper.Montreal's La Presse paper, which has won plaudits for its in-depth and consistent coverage of international and national issues, is threatening to cease operations on Dec. 1. A spokeswoman told The Canadian Press in an interview that staff were informed Thursday that management and the union have three months to reach an agreement on cutting costs. There are a few cities now in North America with no print news. I know some people rail about MSM but I haven't seen anything that close to encompassing what it does. August1991
La Presse management is threatening a lock out. This is part of the negotiating tactics. Nevertheless, the newspaper business is in crisis (and not only in Montreal). BTW, le Journal de Montreal has been in lock out for over seven months. The paper is being published by management staff. The journalists locked out are publishing on line. Edited September 3, 2009 by August1991

Nevertheless, the newspaper business is in crisis (and not only in Montreal). So where does one get news in cities that drop all mainstream local news in print, radio and TV? I don't think bloggers are as encompassing. Edited September 3, 2009 by jdobbin
