IMV, Saskatchewan and Alberta in 1880 are not at all like the NWT/Yukon in 2010. Why? Saskatchewan and Alberta in 1880 were .....//.. Hard, but filled with opportunity.

OTOH, the NWT/Yukon in 2010, like in 1880 and 1770, are places where it has always been hard to live.

IOW, please don't give me this Diefenbaker/Harper PR crap that the North is the new West.

"Hard, but filled with opportunity." Sounds like a perfect description of both, and it's good of you to point out a similarity, even while labelling it difference.

I wonder how far north your travels have ever taken you. The entrepreneurial spirit- the pioneering spirit- is vividly alive among transplants to the north.
