Bro Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 The liberals popularity is gaining again, according to one of the latest polls. We all know the ndp newbies get sucked in to vote ndp, because they can't think rationally, and can't take a joke, but what is it with the Liberals. Are Canadians of this age stupid,or is corruption an accepted part of their life, and therefore an accepted trait of their esteemed Liberal leaders?Or ,do the Liberals buy off the pollsters? Quote
maplesyrup Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 I'll be blunt. Canadians don't want Bush lite in the form of Harper. Anyways Harper was the wrong choice for leader, and as a result, the Cons are tanking. It's quite simple. Get it. August1991 Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 One poll shows the Libs at 40% and the Tories at 23%. I think the baselines are rather Libs at 37% and Tories at 28%. IOW, wait for several polls to show the story. In addition, this last Ipsos-Reid had a rather smallish sample (950). This is too small for Canada given the regional nature of the vote. Ours is not a national vote but rather several separate regional votes. The sample size in each region is too small, and the margin of error too great. Harper and Layton are basically unknown quantities. The NDP at least means something to people. The "new" Tories under Harper mean nothing, or send mixed signals (Mulroney, Clark). This campaign will be interesting. The current poll numbers are not fixed in stone. Quote
Alliance Fanatic Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 Poll's really don't mean much. What matters is how the election turns out. It will be very interesting, we have three newcomers, Harper, Layton, and Martin. I was really hoping that the NDP would choose Bill Blaikie, or maybe Lorne Nystrom. I have alot of respect for those two since they are more moderate on social issues. I think that the NDP would do best under a leader akin to Tommy Douglas, hell then maybe I'd vote NDP. Bro Posted May 8, 2004 Author Report Posted May 8, 2004 I would have to argue. The polls have quite a force on the way Canadians vote.Let's face it,most Canadians are lazy when it comes to choosing a political party. The polls direct them who to vote for.As with the present situation, the Liberals should be headed for a Kim Campbell style defeat, with all the unanswered questions about adscam ,etc.,but as long long as the pollsters give them a high rating, the minority of Canadians who do vote, will definitely be swayed by the pollsters. August1991 Posted May 8, 2004 Report Posted May 8, 2004 The polls have quite a force on the way Canadians voteMany adolescents, teenagers, follow the crowd for fear of being different. Mature people (regardless of age) ignore polls, public opinion and decide on their own.Bro, are you swayed by polls? Public opinion? Quote
Bro Posted May 8, 2004 Author Report Posted May 8, 2004 Very condescending of you,or very liberal perhaps. No,I don't follow the polls, but I am observant enough to see how they can affect the outcome of an election, not always for the benefit of Canada. Quote
CanadaRocks Posted May 10, 2004 Report Posted May 10, 2004 We all know the ndp newbies get sucked in to vote ndp, because they can't think rationally, and can't take a joke While I am not interested in voting NDP, I have seen some very rational thinking on their part over the years. Contrary to what you suggest, I do not see Liberals or Conservatives as boding any great future for Canada, just more of the same old, same old we've always seen. As for polls? The more secure and accurate polls become along with the more participated in, the more valuable they are likely to be as indicators. Quote
odie441 Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 The best thing I have ever heard said about polls >>>>> >>>>>they are hreast for dogs to pee on. Polls are only as valid as the individuals asked and the structure of the question. Quote
