Where is Ignatieff?

Recommended Posts

The Globe and Mail has a good piece on what the Liberal should be doing to win this next election

That's the advantage of being the leader of the opposition, and not having to spend your time making sure things are running properly in Ottawa or jetting off to G8 summits in Italy: You can spend the entire summer raising your profile in ridings you're hoping to pick up.

I tend to agree.

The Globe and Mail has a good piece on what the Liberal should be doing to win this next election.

We've been hearing this from various political and media sources the last weeks.

Ignatieff was in the west right in the beginning of July and in Toronto in the middle of it. He had one overseas trips that had been planned a while back and he is now back in Canada during what is a slow news period.

And yet, the Globe and the Sun seem to want him doing something to keep their life from being boring.

I think they forget that most of the leaders including Layton, Duceppe and Harper take a few weeks in July to recharge.

I note no less than two dozen events in August that Ignatieff is attending so the very anxious media can report the of times the Liberal leader has eaten hot dogs. Maybe they can write a whole story about how he prefers French's mustard.

I tend to agree.

Where has Layton been in the last weeks?

Those papers wouldn't report on that stuff it is the Local news you want anyway in the summer

Where has Layton been in the last weeks?

He will be along with local MP’s Glenn Thibeault and Claude Gravelle, will join Mine Mill 598/ CAW workers for a rally this Friday (July 24th) in Copper Cliff.

He will be appearing on MSNBC tonight to talk of Canadian Medicare

He was on CTV July 12th talking about issues

Last week he was Kenora and I think Edmonton for nomination meetings, and recruiting.

Don't worry he is around. We seem to be getting more Tv play this summer then summers past maybe because the Liberal leader has gone missing I don't know.

It also appears their is some sort of convention coming up here in the near future August maybe?

Maybe he isn't missing the Star reports Iggy is just yelling at those working hardest for him.

At any rate, before Liberals are tempted to be smug about this behind-the-scenes struggle, they might want to turn an ear to some reports from Michael Ignatieff's meeting with staffers the other day. The Liberal leader didn't earn any goodwill, it's said, by chiding staffers for a 10 a.m to 3 p.m. work ethic. Many of the staffers who work longer hours than that took umbrage at the insult.

Where has Layton been in the last weeks?

Honing his ability to simultaneously empathize and emote for the working Canadians while enjoying a fine glass of Chablis and a light Sashimi.

A lot of the time even local news doesn't cover when a leader is in town.

Unfortunately for you most of that is not covered in the news. Do a search and there isn't a lot of Jack Layton news.

There isn't a lot of political news...period.

Seems to me we are getting more coverage this summer then ones past.

Who knows? It seems to me that there is more coverage of city politics this summer than provincial or federal politics.

The first two weeks of July are generally considered to be the highest travel times for Canadians. The gone fishin' sign is up and even some reporters are on holiday.

The first two weeks of August are also high travel times but I expect most of the parties will be gearing up for a possible snap election called by Harper.

Dudes, I haven't read all of the previous posts in this thread but I'm very supportive of Mr. Ignatieff. He should be Canada's leader. This Momma's Boy Harper, and his hidden, fascist agenda, needs to go.

Coming from some who would deport people who's opinion you don't like, calling another a fascist is hilarious and quite indicative.

You and your national socialist agenda have to go there is no room for you here.

Ignatieff is back in action and in the news, complaining that the Conservatives don't take EI seriously. He said his party was ready at the end of June to begin work on the blue ribbon panel but the Conservatives were not.

He made a prediction which is worth noting.

"He predicted that high unemployment - pegged at 8.6 per cent last month - will continue to plague the country for several more years."

He added: "We welcome green shoots in the economy but it's going to be a tough, long, hard slog to get this country back to full employment,"

It would be interesting to know what he considers to be full employment in this country.
