capricorn Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 Canada didn't have a problem with Mexico and the Czechs when the Liberals were in power. I don't know about Mexico, but there were similar problems with Czechs in the 90s when the Liberals were in government. He noted that Jean Chretien's Liberal government lifted and then re-imposed a visa requirement for Czech visitors in the mid-1990s after a similar flood of refugee claimants from the Roma minority, which is subjected to widespread discrimination in Czech society. http://www.vancouversun.com/travel/Canada+...2224/story.html Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. jdobbin Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 I don't know about Mexico, but there were similar problems with Czechs in the 90s when the Liberals were in government. They re-imposed visas because the Czechs didn't qualify as a safe country until they joined the EU. They do now and Canada already has rules in place to send refugees back to countries that are deemed safe. That is why the EU does not accept refugees from each other. Since 2007, I have wondered for some time why the Tories didn't apply that rule. Quote

Because asylum seekers are granted Full rights under our charter of rights and freedoms, we can just deport them without all the hearings and backlog that it creates. Thank you Trudeau once again for you lack of forsight and the legacy of damage to our country. Quote "What about the legitimacy of the democratic process, yeah, what about it?" jdobbin Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 Because asylum seekers are granted Full rights under our charter of rights and freedoms, we can just deport them without all the hearings and backlog that it creates. Actually, you can. If they come from a country deemed safe, they can be sent back immediately. Quote
Argus Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 Actually, you can. If they come from a country deemed safe, they can be sent back immediately. No, actually they can't. You can stop them at the border, but once they're in here they're in here for a while. Why do you think we have Americans in here claiming refugee status? Once people are in Canada, the policy should be not to accept any refugees from EU and the States. Period. I see no reason why this can't be expedited within our present system. Quote

We shouldn't be accepting ANY refugee applications whatsoever from the EU or even North America for that matter. There's no point in penalizing our tourism industries because our refugee system is totally broken. Fix the problem, not the effect.
