August1991 Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 No doubt there won't be a peep from feminists about this one, because as we all know they just can't admit that women are violent and men are often victims. Domestic violence of any sort is to be deplored but as a CTV summary of a Statistics Canada noted: Two-thirds of family violence cases were perpetrated by a spouse or an ex-spouse, and 85 per cent of the victims were women. Melanie_ Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 There is a stereotype of the rich, egotistical professional athlete who believes all the media hype that surrounds him, and sees himself as above the mundane rules that govern the rest of us. I don't know much about Steve McNair (as a matter of fact, I'd never heard his name before this, much to the disgust of my 20 year old son), but his death reinforces this stereotype - possibly unfairly, possibly not. This article points out that most of us really don't know much about those in the media spotlight, but those who follow their careers tend to transfer their loyalty for an on-field persona to a very different individual off-field. The collision between image and reality is spectacular, again. When will we learn that there often is no connection between athletes and real life, between the pictures we watch on the playing field and what really goes on in the background? When?~snip~ But there is no automatic transference outside of the chalk lines on the field. We all know that in our heads, but we forget sometimes. We get caught up in the mythmaking. We assign these noble qualities to people who play games, but we have no idea what they are like once the television is switched off. lily Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Steve McNair may have been a victim of domestic violence, or he may have been killed as a result of hid own DV tendencies. without any evidence, who can say for sure? and while male victims tend not to report... the same is true for many female victims. adding in SS relationships is a strawman. jbg Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Steve McNair may have been a victim of domestic violence, or he may have been killed as a result of hid own DV tendencies. without any evidence, who can say for sure? There are probably a good three or four sides to that ugly story. I suspect that many of those people involved richly deserved each other. Muddy Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 A Canadian boxer ,Arturo Gatti, has died under some mystery and a look at the spouse who`s purse strap was found around his neck and a stab wound in his back. Great boxer over the years. Domestic violence. Hard to say yet. Quote

Great boxer over the years. Domestic violence. Hard to say yet. They haven't ruled out suicide yet. It's kind of funny inthat case... police said that he was possible dead for up to 8 hours before he was discovered, but his wife couldn't account for why she didn't realize he was dead, even though she was in the hotel room with him. He was found in the morning when she woke up. Could she maybe have been sleeping during those 8 hours? Quote I'll rise, but I won't shine.
