bjre Posted June 17, 2009 Author Report Posted June 17, 2009 (edited) It's because China gave up strict communism and allowed the capitalists in. Don't care what method they use, they did it. It SHOULD be the 1st largest economy in the world, because over 1 billion people live there, but it's not because of its government. China was the 1st largest economy in the world for centuries. I am looking forward it become the 1st again in the future. If it is not all because of its government, at least it is impossible for a too bad government. According to the Chinese government. According to everybody else a lot of people died there. Not everyone else, for example, a western journalists Richard Roth who was there don't think so. http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/06/04/wo...ry5061672.shtml I was being held captive by Chinese army troops on the south portico of the Great Hall of the People (which forms one of the borders of the Square) when that round of gunfire occurred. I could hear it but I could not see into the Square. Around forty minutes later, Derek Williams and I were driven in a pair of army jeeps right through the square, almost along its full length, and into the Forbidden City. Dawn was just breaking. There were hundreds of troops in the square, many sitting cross-legged on the pavement in long curving ranks, some cleaning up debris. There were some tanks and armored personnel carriers. But we saw no bodies, injured people, ambulances or medical personnel — in short, nothing to even suggest, let alone prove, that a "massacre" had recently occurred in that place. Later, being debriefed on-air by Dan Rather, I recall making an effort to avoid using the word "massacre." I referred to an "assault" and an "attack." There are many other Chinese who were there told the similar fact. One of the the leader of the protester from Taiwan (Hou Dejian) has the same opinion. Only those who tell lies, or who is willing to trust lies, or who have heard of the lie for too many times believes that that is Massacre in the square. No wait...it was SPACE ALIENS. I have nothing wrong to say about the Chinese people, especially the ones who have moved to Canada. I have dated Chinese girls when I was younger and they were smart and fun. At least I have no opposite opinion on this. China, the country, on the other hand, is a nasty government and is holding back the people very badly. It's like North Korea. Only after you spend a lot more time on studying China deeply might you be able to draw a conclusion not too far away from the truth. bjre Posted June 17, 2009 Author Report Posted June 17, 2009 ROTFL. Even the Chinese government admits that people died. They just try to minimize the number of deaths and refuse to say who actually died. See last comment. Western governments do bad things. But the difference is those things are ultimately exposed by the media and truth comes out. Often rules are put in place to prevent it from happening in again. In China the government never admits any wrong doing and jails anyone brave enought to try and bring those wrong doings to light. What this means is the Chinese government is inherently untrustworthy. If you really want people to "understand" China you should be telling the Chinese government to stop jailing dissendents and stop trying to control what stories the media covers. China government did a lot of wrong things. But they need not admit those they did not do. The people in jail was not because they try to tell truth. It was because violence, spy, and other crimes. I believe Canada has similar criminal code. Dave_ON Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 Actually, our written language owe much more to the Egyptian and Sumero-Akkadian cultures. Architecture and a fair chunk of mathematics is owed to the Greeks and Romans, but both the Greeks and Romans basically borrowed and heavily modified Eastern Mediterranean Semitic script, which itself descended from Egypt and Mesopotomia. More Phoenician than anything really, Egyptian worked on a series of pictographs to represent words or concepts. The Phoenicians were the first ones to come up with the concept of spelling out syllables with individual letters to represent the spoken word. While they are highly pictographic in nature, this was a significant departure from the Egyptian form of writing it was based on. For instance the concept of acrophony (where the first letter of the name of the letter is the sound it makes) was purely Phoenician. The general characters were modified Egyptian pictographs but the application was entirely different. This is somewhat of a pet subject of mine and the following is a cool link that shows the evolution of the alphabet. http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/Parli...2587/alpha.html The Dark Ages weren't nearly as dark as later historians, particularly during the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, made out. Those guys had a major chip on their shoulders as far as the capacities and learning of Medieval scholars and engineers. And the view that the Church somehow stymied development was discarded a long time ago. {/quote] I think that Galileo and DeVinci would beg to differ. The concept of a geocentric universe was enforced by the church under constraints of excommunication which in the Middle Ages was a death sentence. Galileo as it was, was forced to recant his work by the church and spent the rest of his life under house arrest. If that's not the church styming the development of science I don't know what is. I have dated Chinese girls when I was younger and they were smart and fun. Many Chinese are nice because China has a great culture and great philosophy and moral system. For example, "At birth, man is good." or "Men at their birth, are naturally good." that is a positive reinforcement to encourage people don't do bad things. Another example: "Refrain from doing to others what you don't want to be done by", "do not impose on others what you yourself do not desire" or "do not unto others as you would not have them do unto you", If the western legislation people, the judges, social workers, teachers, lawyers do as this, it would be less crime and more peaceful. While in all technicallity you may be correct, the killings happened NEAR Tianamen square not IN it that doesn't change the fact that the Chinese goverment admits that deaths DID occur near it. This article is little more than hair splitting. Some have found it uncomfortable that all this conforms with what the Chinese government has always claimed, perhaps with a bit of sophistry: that there was no "massacre in Tiananmen Square." But there's no question many people were killed by the army that night around Tiananmen Square, and on the way to it — mostly in the western part of Beijing. Maybe, for some, comfort can be taken in the fact that the government denies that, too. Quote Follow the man who seeks the truth; run from the man who has found it. -Vaclav Haval-

This article is little more than hair splitting. So you just know this, you did not know this when you said "someone who denies the atrocities of Tianamen square". Why you didn't know that, it is because you never get the accurate information. If you can not get accurate information, how can I expect you can always draw correct conclusion? I guess you will support the Iraq war when you heard of Iraq had WMD which has been proven a lie when nearly all media said so at the same time. There are so many news everyday, how can everyone have time and resource to check and verify each one? The freedom of speech in the western world is not much better than China. Because most media are controlled by a same interest group. That is why you have so much inaccurate knowledge.
