Haiti has arable land a-plenty, fresh water streams all over the country, fresh fruits that grow naturally everywhere and in abundance. And except for the occasional typhoon, the weather in Haiti is SUBLIME. Haiti is FAR FAR more naturally gifted then Iceland.

On top of it: The french (when they were butchered in a genocidal orgy of bestiality during Haiti's "independence") left in Haiti a MADE COUNTRY. With all of the latest appurtenances that excellent french technology and statecraft left over. The blacks even inherited one of the early electric plants! They had cannons for national defense, army vessels and great ships for trade and all of the documents and essential secrets of how to maintain a civilized country on excellent French democracy. They inherited medical technology. agricultural know how, gold, roads, castles, money, carriages, art etc etc etc etc.

There couldn't have been a better scenario, the blacks were turned over to themselves to rule the marvelous country the French had implanted there.

A small class of free mulattoes and Black existed in Haiti before the Revolution. But to say they were equal or quasi equal is to ignore the flurry of laws and customs that barred them from certain professions, lllimited their movments, forbade them from baring arms, etc. And nobody in their right mind would claim that slavery (the lot of the vast majoity of Blacks)was a form of equality.

Yje economuc success of pre-revolutionary Haiti had its dark side, a society founded on slavery and racial ineqality. Thaaat, and the destrictions and hatreds borne of the Revolution laid foundations for the misery that had been the lot of Haiti since the late 18th century.

Not to say, of course, that the SOCIAL and ECONOMIC failure has not to a large extent been inflicted by the post-independance Haitian society to itself (nice bit of usual dishonesty on your part, trying to pretent I meant the opposite),,, but the destruction of the economic structure started at the Revolution, and the seeds for that had been planted long before.
