Getting more and more chatter in US media about the curious dance between Canada and Mexico vying for the most economic affection in these "trying" times. Visits to Washington are just the start....maybe Sec'y Napolitano is on to something!

Basic theory goes like this....solving Mexico's domestic problems will require growing the middle class at the expense of Canada, which at this stage of the game would prefer that Mexico wasn't even part of NAFTA. The US definitley doesn't want a Pakistan on its southern border, so maybe Canada needs to act up more.

Hockey in Mexico City?

That's good.

In 2008, before the election, acquaintances in Montreal all said that Obama would be good for the West, the US and Canada. Specifically, they said that he would understand Canadians better. ("For once, the Americans will have an intelligent president.") Now, several have said that Obama's administration is not so Canadian friendly.

All things considered, given priorities in a Rev. Wright worldview, Canadians are like rich Norwegians - we can take a hit. Between poor Mexicans and rich Canadians, Obama is likely to side with the Mexicans - no?

Yes, that is the expectation, and not just for Mexico, but so called Latin America as well, which is also clamoring for more trade attention from Uncle Sam. Add Cuba to the mix, and one can see an Obama trend that may not purposely slight Canada, but definitely takes it for granted.
