Alta4ever Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 The bolded comments are my interpretation of Alta's thinking. I guess i could learn how to seperate up the quotes to resond to different parts but its just too much like work for a lazy pothead like me. If you want to make those private choices ie drugs, lets eliminate the current form of health care so you have to pay for your choices. I like trans fats, I would be very will to carry higher healthcare cost to enjoy them, would you do the same for your pot. I could really care less what people do in their bedrooms. But ya, I would support legslizing pot if you allow changes in our health care system so people had to pay for what they used because of their bad choices. If we could amend welfare so that those alcholics and drug users sitting at home being paid by the government to be leaches on society. I would support your cause DR. Greenthumb, when you and all those others who advocate, concede that the actions of over use of these substances means that the people who choose this lifestyle are personally responsible (not society or the taxpayer) for all cost assocatied with the use and abuse of these substances. Now back to reality SWAMPED Swamped EI asks retirees to help with claims crisisOTTAWA — Service Canada is so overwhelmed by its unemployment-related workload that overtime rates are spiking and former employees are being yanked from retirement to help out. Human Resources Minister Diane Finley confirmed the hiring of retirees yesterday as the government faces a growing number of questions from MPs bombarded with complaints from constituents over employment-insurance delays. "We are seeing unprecedented demands on this system," said Ms. Finley, who confirmed that her employees are working extra hours and weekends to manage the increase in EI applications. "We are bringing back retirees to make sure that we have enough people to do this." Service Canada is the face of the federal government for Canadians looking for help. It manages local offices across the country, offering services such as passports and applications for support programs such as EI and pensions. Jobseekers overwhelm federal website But the union representing Service Canada's employees warns that paying overtime and hiring retirees are "Band-Aid solutions" that will create new problems down the line. For instance, the union says employees who work on pensions and old-age security are being pulled away to manage employment-insurance claims. "That is just creating another monster," said Jeannette Meunier-McKay, the president of the Canada Employment and Immigration Union, which represents 13,000 Service Canada employees. Ms. Meunier-McKay said her members are detecting a spike in pension applications as laid-off baby boomers opt for retirement rather than seek new jobs. She said the government's approach is creating a real risk that pensioners won't get their cheques on time. It all seems to be happening at once in this economic crunch. Quote

As there have been numerous health benefits attributed to marijuana and no proven dangers to health, perhaps you would like the government to pay us to use it? Quote

I support legalizing cannabis so that like alcohol and cigarette users I CAN pay for my own healthcare with my taxes. We wouldn't need much taxes to cover the long term health hazards of pot tho since none have ever been proven. Quote
