jdobbin Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 http://www.thestar.com/Business/article/595445 The telecommunications giant announced yesterday it is buying the 756-store chain out of bankruptcy protection, doubling its current number of corporate owned or licensed stores to 1,450 and effectively leapfrogging its rivals in the war for wireless, telephone and Internet subscribers. At the same time, it eliminates a major distributor of rival Rogers Communications Inc.'s products. Rogers' deal with The Source expires at the end of this year. Bell's products will begin appearing in The Source stores next January. "It's a bold move, buying something in these times," said Amit Kaminer, an analyst at the Seaboard Group. "This is taking a damsel in distress and saving the day, and on the way increasing (Bell's) distribution and real estate space." It isn't the first time Bell has tried to diversify. Most of that plan had them running home with their tail between their legs. This time though it might be that this gets their product into places where Canadians go: the malls. Quote

That should have been their plan from the start, one stop shopping for TV, phones, etc. I see Roger's stores, MTS stores, and SaskTel stores. Rogers is going to take a licking when this happens. GostHacked Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 Except the Source (ex Radio Shack) is known for selling jumk.Trash 80 anyone? I have found many things there. I go to that store often for audio cable odd and ends, connectors, odd cables.... and the Evolution cables are perfect for my uses. Sure there is some junk, but people who go there, are there for something specific and know they will find it there. Mind you I can go to an actual music store and get same quality cables for cheaper, music stores are not everywhere, The Source is. Quote
bill_barilko Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 In defence of The Source-I recently was quoted 50% of the cost of my cheap old Timex watch to change the battery-this was @ The Bay (they wanted almost $20 IIRC). Going online I found The Source selling the battery I needed for $5 and they had it in stock @ my local outlet, the net supplied battery changing instructions. Quote
