Guest icbones Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) My point is I don't want to give them a hand. Think of it this way, if I was in dire straits in their country, would I get the equivalent of a .5 $billion dollar bail out? As far as me not hearing about the grant, a goggle search does not show any MSM reporting on the grant. I pay politicians to handle the affairs of this country. I should not need to hold their hand and question them on what asinine and wasteful plans they have in store for my tax dollar. A $trillion could be spent on Haiti and they would still be in the same state they have been for generations. Same as aid for Africa, they'll still be chopping each other up because tribal differences. When will people learn that throwing money at a problem rarely solves it? Well, it was in the news. Its not really anyone else's fault but your own that you didn't hear about it. The people in Haiti are far less fortunate than any of us. I have no problem giving them a hand. Smallc Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 As far as me not hearing about the grant, a goggle search does not show any MSM reporting on the grant. The article I linked to is from Reuters. I think they count as part of the MSM. A quick google search also turns up a link to the Canwest News Service from last year, and one from Macleans from about 8 months ago. Quote
Topaz Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 The problem seems to be that Harper promised money to alot of groups and not many got the money but GG was one of the lucky ones. I would like a reporter to ask Harper about this and watch Harpers body language. Quote
madmax Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 In the coffee shops, I have heard a number of negative comments on this package. They want Harper to balance the budget and cut this package off immediately. But that is just a few guys that hold CPC membership cards Quote

I've heard it shoots lasers from the arm-rests. Here's a picture of big boss Queen sitting on it. It may have a seat warmer, too. Quote

Smallc Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 (edited) Australia's throne is very "minimalist" it would seem: Everything in Australia's parliament seems to be minimalist. There is really very little detail to either chamber. Edited January 28, 2009 by Smallc Quote
Smallc Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 but GG was one of the lucky ones. Haiti was lucky, but being that the Governor General is a Canadian from Thetford Mines, I'm not sure how it would help her. Besides, I don't really think she personally needs any help given that she has two very large houses . Quote
Brunopolis Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 People. The package is one year old, she isn't a separatist, and limiting the top position within our country to people born here is just silly. 1. The timing of the package is what I´m worried about. I have nothing against an aid package to Haiti except of who and when the package is being given. If the GG was sending this aid package to Bolivia, for example, I wouldn´t give it a second thought because we don´t have a Canadian/Bolivian in a position of power announcing and pushing the package. 2. I have never said she is a separatist. Personally this aid package has nothing to do with separatism anyways. I don´t know why somebody would bring it up. 3. I was not born in this nation either. Top positions should be allowed to any Canadian. HOWEVER, when it comes to aid packages and trade discussions with a given politician´s country of origin then it should be under heavy scrutiny. Quote
Smallc Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 1. The timing of the package is what I´m worried about. They announced it last year. They are simply promoting it now. Quote
