jdobbin Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 They paid of 30 bill in 3 years....so I think they can, and they did it without raiding EI surpluses, like the 54 Billion that went missing between 1996 and 2006 while the liberals held office. So the Tories will pay back the $85 billion deficit? How? Quote
scribblet Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 So I guess you Liberals don't want the gov't to spend anything, keep the status quo? Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
jdobbin Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 Send him over to the CPC right now, he'd be a perfect fit. They already have a big spending Finance minister in the Tory party. Quote
jdobbin Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 So I guess you Liberals don't want the gov't to spend anything, keep the status quo? Of no deficit? Yes, yes I do. Quote
scribblet Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Of no deficit? Yes, yes I do. I don't like the idea of deficits either, so does this mean they shouldn't spend anything, no stimulus package at all? Maybe just reduce taxes huh Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province

SocDem Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Yeah, but the Liberals and NDP want Harper to spend more ! Then Harper needs to role back those big corporate tax cuts. I dont mind spending, but I dont like spending money we dont have. Quote "Every generation needs a new revolution. "- Thomas Jefferson
madmax Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Yeah, but the Liberals and NDP want Harper to spend more ! The CPC are prepared to throw money around willy nilly and call everything in the budget a "stimulus", which is a total crock. One thing that is certain, is we are going to have less revenue and more spending, and cross their fingers that putting a chicken in every pot is going to create some economic miracle. This turkey isn't going to fly. Quote
Alta4ever Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Yeah, but the Liberals and NDP want Harper to spend more ! jdobbin Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 I am a conservative don't you get that? Doesn't mean you can't start a new conservative party that doesn't spend like socialists like yours does. I am not liberal or socialist like you. Certainly not a socialist but I am a Liberal since I don't believe in things like deficits. Quote
jdobbin Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 Don't tell the liberals here that, they seem to think that they are putting forward the idea of spending cuts. Tories don't do spending cuts. Never have thus far. Quote

Alta4ever Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Tories don't do spending cuts. Never have thus far. I haven't seen the liberals or ndp asking for spending cuts either. Or are you a spokes person for the Liberal Party of Canada? Quote "What about the legitimacy of the democratic process, yeah, what about it?" jdobbin Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 I don't like the idea of deficits either, so does this mean they shouldn't spend anything, no stimulus package at all? Didn't say that at all. I think the Tories should be cutting back in certain areas and spending in others. My opinion is that he should have cut the size of cabinet and looked at all of the spending promises they made leading up to the last election and in the election to see if they could be delayed or cut. Maybe just reduce taxes huh I think I would analyze, seriously analyze, how effective more tax cuts would be to stimulating growth. The issue of how to end the deficit is the missing piece in this budget. Quote
Alta4ever Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Certainly not a socialist but I am a Liberal since I don't believe in things like deficits. Really what do you think of the Trudeau deficits then? Quote "What about the legitimacy of the democratic process, yeah, what about it?" jdobbin Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 Trudeau must have made you cringe... On budget matters, he did make me cringe even though I was not old enough to vote for or against him. I supported his repatriating the Constitution though. All kidding aside, I think the next phase for either the Liberals or the Tories would be a plan to get out of deficit. I think the election goes to whoever can sell their plan the best. I think the plan has to start now. I think we are in for an awful time if we wait to 2013. Quote

What I don't get is that if we are to have growth in 2010 according to the BOC, which I think we can state as a good thing, why are we going to still be in deficit? jdobbin Posted January 27, 2009 Author Report Posted January 27, 2009 they did cut spending, nobody liked it, remember the art cuts for one... damned if they do and damned if they don't They made cuts that were highly political. They didn't do a cross the board cut. They cut things they hated and spent wildly on things they liked. Quote
Smallc Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 why are we going to still be in deficit? Because the stimulus package is spread over 2 years. Quote

Flaherty hedged himself so much on that growth projection. He is right to. We don't know how much we are going to be sideswiped in world events. We should have been better prepared for this. Sad thing is a great deal of Canadians asked for this... Canadians are very against the deficit according to most polls. Quote
