Topaz Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Last night, Art Bell came out of retirement to do his annual "predictions for the follow year" were his fans phone in and they tell him what they think will happen the year to come. He does 100 predictions and last night was the first 50 and tonight he'll finish it. So, I thought I'd ask you. what do you prediction will happen in 2009, in Canada, US and the rest of the world. BTW, the greater % of the predictions for 2008 was the economy will tank and it did. I'm still thinking on this one and will give mine later in the day. Anyone else has one? Quote

1. I agree that the economy will probably dominate the news and I think it will get worse before it gets better. 2. I think that Stephen Harper will be replaced as the leader of the Conservative Party before the year is up, and definitely before the next election. 3. I predict that when we finally get the true picture of the Canadian books we will all be devastated. I firmly believe, as most economists do, that Canada is already in a deficit and Flaherty has been engaged in creative bookkeeping. 4. I predict that the Canadian dollar will continue to fall, which won't necessarily be a bad thing. 5. I predict that Sarah Palin will forget her way home and will end up in a Canadian cornfield, asking "Is this Kansas?" 6. I believe that the Conservatives will be sitting on the other side of the House before the year's end. 7. I believe that the violence in Afghanistan will escalate, causing us to rethink the mission. 8. I believe oil prices will rise but not to the value they hit this summer. Probably about $60.00 a barrel. 9. I predict that George Bush will have another shoe thrown at him but this time the assailant won't miss. 10. I predict that no matter what happens, Canadians will continue to argue politics and policies with no hard feelings. Ok, maybe a few hard feelings, a little name calling but a lot of thoughtful insight. Those are my ten. Quote "For all our modesty and self-deprecation, we’re a people who dream great dreams. That's not the way our system works." Stephen Harper.
M.Dancer Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 (edited) I predict links and simple english will still challenge Topaz despite Art Bell and a new talking toaster oven. Progressive Tory Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 I predict links and simple english will still challenge Topaz despite Art Bell and a new talking toaster oven. They have talking toaster ovens? What do they say? I had talking scales once until I silenced them with a hammer. M.Dancer Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 They have talking toaster ovens? What do they say? They tell people that it's all about Oil, the Jews control the banks and the US Army has a working UFO with pickled alians,,, Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
Topaz Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 Ah, Dancer, I was waiting to see what you would say. I will admit that I may not do a very good job linking things and the reason for that is I'm a novice when it comes to the ins and outs of the computer. What I do know is self-taught, which I'm sure you would say isn't much, which I could agree but in every day life except on this forum I do survive. Now my prediction is that Dancer will see 50, in 2009 and beome a more understanding and open minded person. Happy New Year, Dancer and to all on the board!! Quote

Progressive Tory Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 I believe this is the link for the first part. Second one doesn't seem to be online yet. http://www.coasttocoastam.com/shows/2008/12/30.html I'm pretty techno-challenged myself so don't be surprised if it doesn't work. Cheers. Here were my predictions last year: http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index....st&p=282752 I was wrong on quite a few items, accurate on a few. Made a few wild predictions for fun. I still think Lindsay Lohan will die of an overdose. Quote
capricorn Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 Everything I ever predicted never happened, except maybe that my son would divorce his wife within the first year of marriage. For that, I'm grateful. Warren Kinsella, a purported aide to Michael Ignatieff and campaign worker, presented his predictions. One stands out. 8. I can’t predict what the Conservatives will do in their budget; they’d gotten crazier than shithouse rats, around the end of 2008, and it’s hard to predict the behavior of crazy people, let alone rats. But if they come up with a stinker, and more silly games, they’ll be defeated in the House of Commons and at the ballot box. If they figure out a way to evade the executioner, they’ll be governing during the worst of the worst economic downturn in decades. Either way, they’re screwed. Short-term, long-term, they’re hooped. http://www.warrenkinsella.com/index.php?en...ry081231-204047 With Kinsella working in Ignatieff's back room, is this the type of cooperation and decorum we can expect from the Liberals in 2009? If hard core Liberal partisans take their cue from Kinsella, look for more name calling and denigration. And for comedy, Kinsella offers this. 9. We’re overdue for some sort of environmental calamity. That, when combined with the Reform Conservatives’ complete disinterest in things like climate change, will make people angrier. John Baird will wish he had listened to Al Gore. So will everyone. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
Jerry J. Fortin Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 I will venture a few predictions. 1) Iggy lets Harper take a fall for the economy 2) Harper's government will fall because of the economy 3) The Coalition will become a reality in a fall election, there will be two choices only across the ballot, Steve or no Steve 4) Layton becomes a cabinet member 5) Dodge closes its doors 6) Ontario becomes a welfare state 7) BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan become the only "have" provinces. 8) Quebec privatizes Hydro Quebec to prevent filing for bankruptcy 9) Newfoundland goes back on the dole. 10) Manitoba moves very close to a "have" status when drilling begins this summer. Very good, though I live in Ontario and I think we're already a welfare state. Also Alberta is now in a deficit so unless oil starts to rise again they may be in trouble. I read a posting awhile ago with something called the 'Albertans Prayer". It went something like "Dear God, please let the price of oil rise again and when it does please God don't let us piss it all away again." We aren't in trouble we just cut the bottom out of spending, we elminated our debt when oil was less than $30/barrell. The rest of Canada could learn something from us. Actually, I like Alberta and respect their system of taxation and pay as you go. I do have concerns about the long term with 'Dirty Oil' being spurned by environmentalists. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationw...0,2866770.story You won't get any arguments from me though and I can understand why they are so upset over the auto bailouts.
