Question for Albertans

Recommended Posts

Excellent post from one of the best posters on this forum.

I live here and can say I've never heard a single Alberta politician complain about the great disparity between what Albwerta contributes to equalization and what Alberta receives from Ottawa. I don't expect that to change, but I do expect what Alberta contributes to change, and change dramatically.

Alberta is getting hit very hard with greatly reduced world oil prices, which means Canada is going to get hit very hard too. With Ontario in the dumps, maybe one of the eternal leeches like Manitoba or Quebec could pick up the slack.

Wouldn't that be 'progressive'?

Manitoba will be joining up when we toss out this poor excuse of an NDP government and start pumping hydro to Ontario.

Read the transfer payments. They prove otherwise.

Doesn't make us a leach to be part of a constitutionally mandated program. Doesn't matter if we receive money or not. I for one am very grateful to live in a country where no province is left to suffer. We truly are blessed, something many people forget far too often.

yes it does, we can be on the other side of the consitutionally mandated program. But the Manitoba NDP has this stupid slacker, oh it's good enough atttitude, it can't be better. I'd have no problem with the taps being turned off, it would inspire Winnipeg and the North and Dauphin to get their shit together.

Our economy is the second fastest growing in Canada. I'm not sure what else you want. Oh, and Winnipeg doesn't need to be told to get anything together. The growth here is still moving at a very rapid pace. The north is also growing quickly (though this has been hurt by the sagging commodity prices). You can't just flip a switch, but the fact is things are happening, whether or not you see them.

Doesn't really matter though, we're all Canadians, we all live in this country together, and we all help each other in times of need.

true, just, as a conservative person, i would like to do it by choice, rather than being told i must by socialists.

Canada is NOT better off without Quebec.. Our Francophone culture is just as important as our Anglophone culture

Canada would be much better off without Quebec! they have caused nothing but trouble in this country for way too long.Good Riddance!

How long do we have to kiss their ass and be held hostage everytime they want something....all i hear is Quebecers want this and they want that, What about Manitoba? ...what about B.C.? aren t they part of Canada what about what they want....Nova Scotia has a distinct society (Acadians) i don t hear them whining about anything and i know many they are sick of Quebec too......let them go and be done with it... lets see how long they survive on their own!

But then what your saying means you don't think what I said is true. As a liberal minded person, I prefer to not have people in one province suffering while people in another have more than they know what to do with. Mind you, I have no problem with the second one, provided the first one doesn't exist.

That comment reminds me of a welfare dependent drug addict who never uses the social safety net to help better themselves...just to merely survive in their pathetic existence.

So if one province is doing well and the rest aren't...we must all live in squaller just to be equal? And you think you aren't a socialist? holy fuck...shit or get off the pot buddy!!

Did you miss the part about having the second fastest growing economy in Canada? 3.8%. Do you think people here are sitting on their hands? Give your head a shake. We're all Canadians and this really needs to stop. I love your province. Its a very nice place. I don't appreciate the way you talk about mine.

not necessarily, you said "were all canadians and we all help each other". im not disagreeing with that, but ask me to help dont tell me i must help. my wife tells me im a workaholic, i admit it i am because i choose to be. If i choose to make that sacrifice, why should i be forced to give my money to someone who chooses not to be? who chooses to work less and thus earn less, why should they be given my money, it destroys the incentive for me to work hard if its taken from me.

just so were clear i have no wish to see the country broken up and I beleive the equalization program is fundamentally flawed.

but, i suppose, therein lay the difference between a conservative and a liberal, a conservative wants equal opportunity, a liberal wants equal results.
